underperforming defenses (fantasy wise)

I'm surprised to see a couple D's on the free agent wire - particularly Carolina and Indy. They're not performing well - but I think both have a lot of sack and big play potential.

Any homer insights to what's wrong with these guys and if they'll come around? Worth picking up if you have to drop a stout D like Denver's?

Picked up Carolina a couple of weeks ago and have been fairly satisfied. One big game and one fairly decent. Picked them off waivers so apparently they underperformed up to that point.

Indy: Their defensive linemen are the size of most linebackers and are getting run the F over.

Carolina: They've been overrated for the past three seasons. They're good, but not top-tier... especially without Witherspoon and Morgan.

Indy: yeah, but they just picked up the Booger. The HBO guys (or maybe it was just Collinsworth) think he'll open things up for Freeney and Mathis.

Carolina: I'm just thinking with Julius Peppers, Kris Jenkins, a defensive-minded coach, and the Steve Smith mojo - and it seems over the past few years they've always gotten off to slow starts...

Indy's defense is linked really closely to their offense. If they play like the old Colts and score a lot of points in a little time, their defense has to get back on the field quickly. And then their opponents will probably put up decent point totals. Of course, their opponents would also be throwing, which is a good opportunity for turnover points. If Indy is NOT scoring, they still seem to win by giving up very few points. So the Colts D always has something to offer, you just never know what. And they COULD have a big negative week.

Carolina's D looks good; their biggest problem is their schedule. There are a bunch of teams that it's always good to try to put your defense against; Carolina has a pretty tough schedule and does NOT get to face many weak offenses --

As someone who's seen a lot of Tampa Bay games... I can only say this--Good luck with all of that.

I agree. Booger is not the answer to Indy's run defense woes. I thought we did pretty good just to get a 2nd round pick for him.
