msaint
Doesn't get talked about as much as it should, but WEEI is discussing it now and it bears mentioning: Vick for, essentilaly, Brees and LT could go down as one of the worst trades in NFL history. Vick might have brought in tons of endorsement money/ad revenue to the organization and sold some season tickets, but as for producing a winning product? A couple good years (e.g. reaching NFC title game against Philly) but overall, pretty mediocre. Then again, SD hasn't advanced very far in the playoffs, either. Falcons fans, others...what say you? Atlanta has had a better defense than San Diego & I'm guessing LT & a couple more Superbowl runs would generate a lot more cash than Ron Mexico. gilthorp
No doubt. One of the things we'll have to wait and see is when the Jenkins goes to another team. This kid is a good receiver who is being retarded by Vick. I'll bet he can't wait to get out of there. Riffraff
Brees was the Charger's own 2nd round pick. Not part of the Vick trade. Also, Brees didn't start producing until Rivers was drafted. The scenario would have to include a 1st round QB drafted to replace him in Atlanta as well. Ask yourself which player you would want to start a franchise around!?!? The Chargers were sooooo bad when they took LT that it was almost like starting from scratch. A few years later, I am ecstatic we have LT and Rivers instead of Vick. The Chargers also recieved Tim Dwight, a secon round and third round pick. As Riffraff pointed out, there's no guarantee the Falcons would've been able to get Brees, as the Chargers used their own 1st pick in the 2nd round to draft him. That being said, Vick is a Golden Goose money making machine for Blank & Vick has taken the Falcons further in the play-offs, than Brees or LT have with the Chargers. I think it would be a cold day in Hell, before Blank would ever reverse that trade.
Big Score 1
The Chargers also recieved Tim Dwight, a second round and third round pick. You guys got LT2 - awesome RB & Tim Dwight - no longer with team Reche Caldwell - no longer with team Tay Cody - out of the NFL since 2003

Vick hasn't developed yet. In 9 more years, after he's figured out the system and learns how to pass and play football, he'll be way better than LT. Primetime9287
In 2-3 Years there may be a thread just like this asking the question with the teams being SD and NYG... Looking back...Do you think the Giants would rather have Phillip Rivers and Shawn Merriman over Eli Manning. Right now, I would say yes. Shawn Merriman over Eli is almost worth it alone.
