How does your WW work?

Just looking at changing some things for next year and starting now while its all fresh in my mind.

How does you league handle the WW?

We have always used FCFS and every year someone complains. Every year the leauge votes to keep it FCFS. I am tired of the complaining so I am going to force a WW system. I would like to only give them 24 hours to put in their claims. Opens Tues morning and runs Wed morning. Then it goes to FCFS. That way it keeps the teams on their toes.

Thanks

What a can of worms I opened when I switched my local from FCFS to WW. :D

As it turns out, the owners who don't really follow the players and struggle to even post a lineup weekly love the WW. The owners who spend hours daily reading up on players and trolling the internet for the next break-out free agent hate the WW.

Next year I go back to FCFS and say screw you to the owners you barely hear from once the draft is over. :D

This has always been my reason for FCFS. The only problem I have is the guys that dont have access to the computer until they get home at 5pm. Then there are some of the guys that are in front of the computer

We went away from FCFS this year to a hybrid system. During the FF regular season, we have a claims process. The claims run at 4pm MT on Thursday afternoon. At 4:30 MT, then, owners may pick up players on a FCFS basis (FCFS is limited to 10 per season) up until 5 minute's before kickoff of their next game.

This solved two issues. First, those who cannot be online as much as some owners are given a fair shot at players via claims (which works according to worst record/pts getting first dibs, and serpentine after that). Then, the second add/drop FCFS part helps owners who a) missed out on a player or :D have to make a last minute change due to injury.

The reason for the limit of ten FCFS add/drops is to keep folks from just packing away a bunch of players at the last minute. In other words, to help prevent "spinning" players--especially during the playoffs.

Our waiver wire is wide open...

There are no restrictions other than the fact you only can make 3 moves per week...from 1pm Sunday to the next week.

However, we do have a cutoff where two weeks before the playoffs waiver moves are frozen, this comes one week after our league trading deadline. During this time of the season, Free Agents are frozen unless a team has an injury...in other words, if you have a player who was not listed on the IR as Questionable or worse who becomes Q or worse, then you may make a free agent move.

So, we really put the clamps down during the push run and the playoffs, but up to that point it's a free-for-all.

No players can be added/dropped freely until the claims period is over and processed. Each week, the WW order is determined by record and then total points. After the WW, any team can add/drop as many players as they want until kickoff of the first games on Sunday. Everyone in our league likes this approach because it gives the weak teams a shot at the hot WW pickups.

We do the same thing. Helps keeps parity in the league and is fair to everyone, especially if all your league members are active.

FCFS obviously favors people who have lotsa free comp time (and I've been one to take full advantage of that). Very unfair to active members who cannot access a pc at their leisure. I imagine the league members who fight the most against losing FCFS are the ones with unlimited pc access.

One example of how NOT to run your WW - one league I'm in gives priority based on total points, even though playoffs are based on record. One guy with a 6-1 record has priority over me who is at 4-3. Needless to say I've already lobbied to have that changed next year....

this one's all over the map...... so many different options.

dynasty leagues - blind bidding on either wednesday or thursdays - fake money

late bloomers - blind bidding worst to first then open WW - free

gen lost - blind bidding then open WW - fake money

ECB - FCFS 24/7 - $5.00 per move

IDP handbook - 10 moves total all year

homer - blind bidding $5.00 per move - ties are to the highest bid - real money... pricey.

9 leagues - 6 different formats. :D

I generally prefer waiver claims that run on Wednesday evening (start colloecting claims after Sundays first kickoff), then FCFS until Sunday's early kickoff.

THis way you do not give an unfair advantage to those owners that can simply sit in front of their computers all the time, it still gives the savvy and attentive owners an advantage as the claims run early enough inthe week (plus they usually learn of players a week if not weeks before the non-attentive players) and the waiver system still helps give the feel of "balancing" weaker teams with stronger teams.

I think the only way to go is FCFS for all free agents. If anyone is dropped, they go on the WW for 2 days and you can put a claim on them. The person with the highest priority to put in a claim gets them and then they go to the bottom of the priority list. I think this system is fair in that no one has any advantage or disadvantage to picking someone up. If you watch all the games and know when someone gets injured, why shouldn't you be able to pick up his backup right away? It's not my fault if other owners aren't on top of things. Like someone said before, the owners who prefer a waiting period are the ones that don't pay as much attention to football. If you aren't going to take it seriously, especially in money leagues, then don't play. I want a competitive league.

I have been in leagues where you can't pick up anyone until 8am Tuesday morning and that's all well and good if you can sit at a computer and put in your requests. A lot of people (including myself) can't access FF sites from work so that type of setup doesn't work. If someone asks me to join a league and they have a lame WW system, I tell them no.

Five leagues... four ways of doing it.

ECB - $5.00 real money per transaction... WW opens after MNF is over and runs until KO Sunday. Each weeks transactions goes to a weekly pot.

Slugs - $5.00 real money per transaction... all day, everyday. Each weeks transactions goes to to a weekly pot.

Fusion - blind bid - limited fake money.

MSHB - I'm really not sure how this works LOL .. it is FCFS from Thursday to Sunday though.

WCOFF - blind bid - limited fake money.

Personally... FCFS is the only way to go. Someone needs a player...they find a way to be there and get the player. But no matter how you do it there will always be some that want it different. There is no possible way to please all the owners all the time.

FCFS is BS and I hate it.

I have that in one of my leagues and there is one person who stays online until the the second we can add drop and he takes 3-4 players at a time. We limit to 10 add drops a season to avoid this but honestly the first few weeks is where the real jems on WW are then it declines.

I want it moved to WW next year. It is really annoying. FCFS isnt fair because not everyone has the same time schedule.

well, our league is a redraft, and we use cbs.sportsline. sportsline actually has a rating system called 'power rankings' where they rank the 12 teams in 3 categories. the first is record, the second is points and the third is breakdown. breakdown takes your weekly score and puts it against every other team's weekly score and assigns you a win or loss. so, the system gives you 1-12 pts depending on how you do each category. we then take the reverse of the power rankings, and assign this as the waiver order. since we pay out on both head to head record, and total points, it seemed the fairest way to base on this power ranking system. basically, the teams doing the worst in both head to head and points have first shot at the waivers. we charge a $1 to pick up a guy. the waiver process runs at 1 a.m. on wednesdays. once the waiver process has finished and all transactions are processed, the free agent pool becomes fcfs, and you can pick up guys up until gametime on sunday.

WW, up to 6 moves a week, based on record with total points as the tie breaker; $2.50 per player acquired. [edit - WW moves are processed on Wed. at midnight.]

However, it is conducted by rounds, meaning that every team has a chance a chance to pick up one player before the team with the first selection gets to pick again.

The software is home-grown.
