Rudi Johnson and the rest of the season...

Will Rudi come around or is he sputtering along with the rest of Cincy's offense? they have a tough schedule for the second half of the season. The trade deadline is approaching and just looking for some thoughts for Rudi and company. :D

Hard to tell. It ain't Rudi's fault he is running good when he gets the carries. but it is hard to be a top ten Rb when you only get 14 carries a game. It depends on the OC. IMO they need to feed him the rock about 20-23 times a game to make the passing game more effective(long passes to CJ and gang) if they don't run it lets the safties hang back more. I expect them to run more but then i've been expecting that for a few games now.

i actually just picked him up. i don't know about your pool, but in mine its hard to find guys who don't split carries and who get all the goal line carries. Rudi gets the ball. my league is TD-weighted so he's valuable as long as he sticks it in the endzone consistently.

Cinci does have a tough sked, but weeks 15 and 16 are vs. Oakland and Indy. that's fantasy playoff time and he should do well there.

Good point about 15 and 16...

This is a quandry I've been facing myself...

actually, it's oak in 14, @ indy in 15, @ denver in 16, so he can at least help you get to the title game. and i think the return of henry, believe it or not, will help rudi.

Henry? Don't you mean Perry?

At the very least, the weather is going to dictate that the Bengals use Rudi a little more from now on. In Nov and Dec, they'll play 6 of 9 games in cold-weather cities (with BAL and the dome games (NO and IND... not great defenses anyway) being the only exceptions).

no, i actually meant henry....the passing game clearly stalled a bit without that third WR threat, and with defenses now having to cover chad, housh AND henry, things should open up a little bit more for rudi. just my theory anyway...

I thought that their problems had to do with their O-line not giving Palmer enough time to make his reads. Could be a combination of both, though.

oh totally agree, o-line has been weak without jones, etc...but carson looked better vs. atlanta, though he got smacked around a little bit.

? er what FF planet are you on...his yds, TDs, and carries have all been extremely inconsistent.

The problem is I can't afford not to start him. But he's hurt me about as much as he's helped me.

I don't have the data to back this up but I'm pretty sure Rudi has been a strong 2nd half player the last two years. Swerski made a good point about the weather as to why this makes sense. As the weather gets colder, teams tend to run more and Rudi seems to shine as it gets colder. He's overrated in performance leagues because he's a non-factor in the passing game but I suspect he'll finish strong.

I've had him in a keeper league for the past two years and that's sort of what I recall (I'm too lazy to look up the stats right now). He hasn't been off-the-hook great in the second half, but I seem to remember him crossing the stripe more often around then.

unlike most FF owners, I like when my players get spelled..even for a whole drive...

that's not considered RBBC to me....it helps keep my player fresh for the 4th quarter when the defense is tired...

I even use this sort of philosophy for RB's who don't play much the 1st half of the season and then either get playing time due to injury, coming off an injury or just finally getting a shot....

they usually have fresh legs and run all over defenses....look at Foster in 2003 as an example....and there are plenty others that aren't coming to mind...

I think some of the backs that can be in this category are maroney, deangelo, lendale etc...

keeping my RB fresh is the most important thing....

Actually, the Raiders D has been pretty decent this year, so I wouldn't necessarily expect big points against the Raiders.
