wildcat2334
No way. Portland is 10 times worse than Atlanta. Uh, BillSki- your little town is not a major sports city yet. 1 bad NBA team doesn't quite meet the requirements, but yeah, I agree- you guys need to support your AAA team, Arena league suqad and Portland State footbal all you can. Chavez
Completely agree. I have no idea why Miami teams stay there - they'd get better attendance in Godforsaken, Idaho. Any city where the argument "there are so many other options" is used should have all franchises yanked, stadiums demolished, and be forever consigned to have no organization above NBADL, AA-ball, arena league2, or AHL. You always hear that about Miami, San Diego, etc - "why would you watch bad {insert sport} over going to the beach?" F*cking worthless fans - why WOULDN'T you kick it at a game in beautiful weather? I think it's more insane to watch the Bears (or Sox or Cubs in the early season) or Jets/Giants or Denver in brutal cold as opposed to enjoying the game on tv with your feet warming in front of the fire. Um, I don't live in Portland. But nice try. And apparely you didn't read the rules of eligibility... * Eligible cities competing for the title of Worst Sports City have at least one professional franchise (NFL, MLB, NHL or NBA) ... where Portland clearly qualifies. Portland has more meth/heroin addicts and homeless people than sports fans. I think that a city like that with one crappy team that nobody supports is a heck of a lot worse than a city like Atlanta with two crappy teams that nobody cares about and two other teams that have had some success in the recent past and do well at the gate. I'm Rick James Bitch
For these rankings, Sportsbook.com's panel analyzed the following criteria in determining, without a doubt, the Worst Sports Cities in America: - Recent on-court/on-field successes - Passion and/or intelligence of fan base - Condition and appeal of local stadiums and arenas - TV, print and radio media landscape - Hurtful and inaccurate stereotypes I think I would like to see the "Passion and/or intelligence of fan base" list. How great would that be?
Roadrunner
I'm not surprised at all that Atlanta is at the top of the list. I grew up in Cleveland, lived in South Florida for 10 years, now in Georgia for 10 years (Augusta specifically). People say they're Braves fans, but can't name 5 players on the team. Half of them probably think Maddux and Glavine are still on the team. Pro sports mean almost nothing to people in the southern states. Their passions are, in this order: 1. College football 2. NASCAR 3. College basketball
