Al and Madden

I love SNF. It feels like real football.

Madden is still at the top of his game, still so knowledgeable it's scary and Al is the perfect compliment to him.

Madden went through that stage where he was pretty much tough to listen to. all the "boom"s and whatnot, he basically became a parody of himself, but he's toned it back, and gets it done now.

He really shows his genius when he calls Sirius NFL radio. When he's actually talking to true NFL analysts, and knowledgeable fans, he doesn't hold anything back. He makes great statements and analyzes games like the Hall of Famer he is. :D

Ugh...back to reality. Tomorrow is MNF :D

Did anyone else notice that Michaels called Cory Dillon "Matt Dillon" on one play? It was a mistake, but a funny one at that.

I don't know why the announcers don't take credit and/or correct the mistake. There are so many production people that at least one of them heard it. Even John Madden probably heard it. Maybe he should've given Al a Wham-Block.

No biggie, just interesting.

First rule of broadcasting is that if you screw up but it doesn't really matter much, you just keep going and you act as if nothing happened. Everyone knew which Dillion he was talking to, and while the production crew might have called him on it, no one out in listening land cares much if they even noticed.

I guess... except for that man love for Farve and Brady, but you're right still 100X better than MNF.

Go Colts!

Are you kidding? He was slobbing Mannings knob all night last night. Ben Utecht made a great catch, but we heard nothing of Utect... It was all Manning is this, Manning is that... Where are Mannings rings?

:D Madden thinks he knows everything! He is so far removed from the game. I feel sorry for Michaels.

i just could not disagree more. I think Madden is the best of the best. Michaels plays the broadcast right to what Madden needs. and when Madden gets talking about coaching strategy and certain plays and what they entail, I find myself so interested it's actually scary. :D

Madden is teh rox0rs.

They honestly are the best in the business right now.

Al Michaels constantly leads the most solid and respected broadcast in football. He's the glue that holds it together, and he always tells you exactly what's happening without all the personal interjection of worthless opinion that you get from some broadcaster.

John Madden is insightful and knowledgeable at times, and he is a character all the time. He really knows the game at all levels, and sure... he gushes a lot over some players, and he has an unhealthy fascination with O-lineman's butt sweat from time to time... but I enjoy his good parts and can laugh at his bad ones.

Show me someone who's doing it better before you complain about them. I don't think you can find anyone.

:D

I think his gushing has alot to do with his knowledge of the game and how it all unfolds. He knows its rare to see guys of certain caliber and wants all the laymen to know exactly what they are watching. And in the case of Brady/Favre/Manning it's usually something very special, and a typical non-educated casual football fan might not know it, and he won't have any of that.

:D you said butt sweat.

yes...but are they doing the Bowl?

I think if it was those MNF idiots I'd probably rather watch WNBA.

are you asking or attempting to tell us if they're doing the bowl or not, because i really dont know.

edit: from superbowl.com

TV/Radio coverage: CBS will be televising its 15th Super Bowl. CBS Radio-Westwood One will be broadcasting its 20th consecutive Super Bowl, 33nd overall

not that that tells us anything, but it is CBS...

heh heh. Butt sweat.

I also think that maybe his gushing is partly salesmanship. Part of his job is to sell the game to the viewers and to get them to tune in again. So, he has to tell people that the game is awesome.

At least he's not as bad as those X-Games announcers. They are like used car salesman with their proclamations of every trick or stunt being the most amazing thing they've ever seen.

Yeah. You can only make great plays if you have rings. :D

If you are talking about the third down pass where Manning was sandwiched as he released the ball, that WAS a hell of a play by Peyton. Especially since he has been criticized by many for his play when he has pressure in the pocket. If you have watched him this season, it is obviously something he has worked on in the off season.
