EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Strahan will be sidelined two to four weeks with a sprained right foot.

Diagnostic tests of Strahan's foot Monday revealed a sprain to the Lis Franc ligament, the team said in a statement.

"This is not an injury that requires surgery," trainer Ronnie Barnes said. "Michael will be on crutches and in a boot for at least the next week. A reasonable timeframe for Michael's possible return would be anywhere from two to four weeks."

New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin was not immediately available for comment. Giants players were off on Monday.

Strahan was injured in the second quarter of the Giants 14-10 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday. He limped off the field.

"Let's not get into that," Strahan said of his playing status after the game. "You gentlemen have a splendid night."

Strahan was wearing a boot on his right foot as he walked away.

The injury could not have happened at a worse time for the Giants (6-2), who are riding a five-game winning streak. All-Pro Osi Umenyiora (hip flexor) and fellow defensive end Justin Tuck (foot) were injured two weeks ago against Dallas and have missed the last two games.

New York also faces an NFC showdown with the Chicago Bears (7-1) at Giants Stadium on Sunday night.

Adrian Awasom, signed off the practice squad two weeks ago, took over for Strahan on Sunday and finished with two tackles.

"It was a shock," Awasom said. "The coach tells us all the time to prepare like you are a starter."

Strahan even offered Awasom some advice.

"He just said, 'Keep putting pressure on. This is your opportunity, take advantage of it,'" Awasom said.

Strahan is half a sack shy of breaking Lawrence Taylor's all-time team record for career sacks. They are tied with 132 1/2, making the 35-year-old Strahan the active leader among NFL players.

Yeah and with Umenyiora out for Week 10 and then up to two weeks after that, it's time to think about Mathias Kiwanuka as a sleeper and perhaps Justin Tuck if he can get back from an injured foot.

You think. :D

Kiwanuka has had 2 monster games in a row, in Osi's absense.

Week 8 - 4 tackles, 2 assists, 1 Qb sack and 1 forced fumble.

Week 9 - 7 tackles and a sack

Tuck hasnt recorded a point since week 3. And hasnt played the last 2 weeks.

I swear this guy is unreal. He is so frikin good. Got to watch one of his games thanks to NFL Replay and I can't help but to think he's better than Mario Williams. He's slowly becoming one of my favortie players. Hope he can find himself a starting spot even if they move him to LB with Arrington out. The future is looking extremely bright. :D
