Andrew Walter doesn't like the play calling either...

From NFL.com, towards the bottom...

Walter sounded off to reporters after the game that he was unhappy that pass plays continue to have him taking five- and seven-step drops, which makes him an easy target for pass rushers, and that the Raiders' offense is too predictable. The Broncos sacked him three times and pounded him repeatedly, which had plenty to do with the fact the Raiders gained only 77 yards and three first downs in the second half after producing 167 yards and 10 first downs in the first two quarters. Walter also lost two fumbles on a day when the Raiders seemed too quick to abandon their running game, which only added to Walter's problems. I'm never in favor of finger-pointing by a player or a coach, although it should be noted that Walter said he had gone to Raiders offensive coordinator Tom Walsh "numerous times" with plays he would rather run. Walter's preference is to throw more short passes -- such as swing and flat routes -- that he can get out of his hand quickly.

Oakland is just huge mess. I agree however, that with the line sucking... it would make much more sense to stop trying to throw it deep.

At this point in the season, it just makes the most sense for Shell to leave Walter in there and let him get the experience, rather than bench him for the turd.

(The most sense in regards to the team and its future anyways, maybe not fantasy wise. As FishFreak will surely argue.)

However, if the coaches listen to Walter and agree to more short routes, Jordan's recieving value could easily increase.

Is it safe to say that the game has passed Tom Walsh by? He's been running a bed and breakfast over the past few years and his offensive play calling hasn't been very strong. What's more surprising is how bad their O line is considering that Shell was one of the best linemen ever.

It's come to something when the only guy willing to be Al Davis' OC is a guy who's been out of football running a B&B for years. :D

I just need Randy Moss to get going. My reasons for wanting Brooks back are purely selfish and not in the best interests of the Raiders long term. The O-line is obviously the Raiders biggest problem but Walter just doesn't look like a starting NFL QB to me. I think the Raiders should definately draft Quinn and start from scratch.

I thought I heard on Sirius this morning that Walters has been benched...

(Rotoworld) Reacting to Andrew Walter's criticism of the offense, Raiders coach Art Shell now admits that he's mulling a change at quarterback.

Impact: Walter said offensive coordinator Tom Walsh's playbook lacks "depth," failing to point out that his own throws are often well over the heads of his intended targets. Aaron Brooks, who says he's now healthy, appears likely to be Oakland's starting quarterback in Week 11.

C'mon KP, you must admit Walter is shaky at best as your QB. Surely, you don't consider him your future franchise QB right? He's a turnover machine and the Raiders have scored SEVEN TD's all season! Bring back everyone's favorite Aaron Brooks and let's get this Randy Moss party started. Randy is the weak link on both of my fantasy teams. :D

I didn't realize the Brooks=Moss combo was so productive :D

You should just worry about your own Cunningham/Harrington debacle...

errr....actually, you guys won 2 in a row with Joey, so who am I to talk?

Agreed, Walter has been shaky. Honestly though, who wouldn't be shaky behind that offensive line, taking 7 step drops, and recievers dropping passes because they're bored?

My overall feelings however are this; Walter had an amazing college career at ASU, he showed a lot of potential the previous two preseasons and he fits every steryotype of the "Raider Quarterback." He has had a terrible season, some of it is his fault, however a lot of it isn't.

Walter was drafted to be the QB of the future in Oakland, and because of this year's circumstances with the terrible offense to begin with, I don't think we can judge whether he's the answer or not. I would like to believe he is, and until the other pieces fall into place, I don't think anyone will know for sure.

However, as long as he's learning and the entire offense is sucking, I would prefer they leave him in and let him get the experience, rather than putting in the washed out turd that might help your fantasy team a little bit. Aaron Brooks will make no contribution to this team in the long run.

+1

Brooks is not their future. And maybe Walter isn't either, but we won't know for sure if we sit him down to win a few games this season. That line is bad... so bad, it does not make sense to pull Walter now.

maybe shell is trying to spare walter his life. that oline is as bad as the texans was, when carr was getting sacked an nfl record number of times. this team could easily challenge the number for supremacy of sucking.

This is true, he is getting Carr-like beatings. But unfortunately, I don't think it has anythign to do with saving him.

Art Shell took issue with quarterback Andrew Walter's criticisms of the struggling offense and appears ready to make a switch back to Aaron Brooks. Walter took shots at coordinator Tom Walsh's offense after Sunday's 17-13 loss to Denver, saying there is not enough "depth" in the playbook, the offense was too predictable, and that the team needed to utilize more quick-developing plays than five- and seven-step drops. That didn't sit well with Shell, who has fiercely defended Walsh all season long from criticisms that he is out of touch after being away from the NFL for more than a decade.

"You have to be accountable for what you do," Shell said Monday. "To start making statements about what's in and what's not in, then you need to take a hard look at what's there. Obviously, I don't want to get into a contest with a young man but for him to come out and say those things, (that's) totally off-base as far as I'm concerned." Shell said Walter's comments wouldn't play into the decision about who would start at quarterback Sunday at Kansas City, but he appears ready to give the job back to Brooks.

"I'm going to take a hard look at it and see where we are with him (Brooks)," Shell said. "He's been throwing the last couple of weeks. I thought last week he threw the ball a whole lot better. I think he's very close. We'll see how he goes."

For his part, Brooks said that he is "available" to start against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday. "I expect coach (Art Shell) to make the right decision," Brooks said Monday. "I've informed him where I'm at. It will probably be until the middle of the week until they make that decision." Brooks, who was just 6-for-14 for 68 yards before getting hurt, said the problems on the NFL's worst offense are more about execution than play calling. Brooks has made 84 starts in his career and said he believed he gives the team a better chance to win than the inexperienced Walter does. "I think we have a greater chance," Brooks said. "I possess some skills that with my experience gives us a greater chance."
