Top Two Rated QB's Battle Sunday

Tony Romo leads the NFC with a 101.2 rating in five games, including three starts.

Romo's 308-yard, two-touchdown performance in Sunday's win over Arizona vaulted his passer rating to second in the league behind Colts quarterback Peyton Manning's 104.5 rating.

Manning's undefeated Colts (9-0) will make their first trip to Texas Stadium since 1996 this Sunday (3:15 p.m. CST). Indianapolis has the league's second-ranked offense (379.2 yards per game).

Romo has directed the Cowboys' fourth-ranked offense (373.3) for the last three games and could've been 3-0 as a starter if not for the Redskins blocking Mike Vanderjagt's 35-yard field-goal attempt.

In five games, Romo has completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 1,124 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. He has averaged 287.3 yards in his three starts, totaling 862 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. His other three picks came in the second half of the Cowboys' loss to the Giants, when he replaced Drew Bledsoe at halftime.

Manning also has a 65.6 completion percentage and has thrown for 2,527 yards, 18 touchdowns and three interceptions in nine starts. Romo has a slight edge on Manning's average of 280.7 yards per game.

Let's just keep a few things in mind before we get on our knees in front of Tony Romo. He put up these numbers against NYG, CAR, WAS, and ARZ. New York and Carolina have mid-tier pass defenses, ARZ and WAS are terrible against the pass. This week he faces one of the top pass defenses in the league, and I think Tony's going to have a very difficult time. That being said, Romo has been solid. Good decisions, few mistakes, his mobility has really helped the entire dynamic of the offense. When Parcell's made the move, I thought it was a HUGH mistake, but that's obviously why Parcell's is an acclaimed NFL head coach and I'm some anonymous momo on a Fantasy Football message board.

Romo this week: 18/32 for 150 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT's. Maybe someone can figure out that passer rating for me. TIA.

We are not having him sit for his bust mould for Canton yet, but stats are stats.

Indy does have a good pass defense but they have a horrible rush defense. Romo is a game manager and the Cowboys will look to run against the Colts defense.

Shame on you. Indy has allowed the likes of Carr (219-3td), Pennington (207-1), and Brunell (226-2), to have decent days and none of those QB's have Owens and a double pronged running attack.

Indy will spend most of it's time worrying about the run... that will open up Crayton and Owens. This game is going to be wide open scoring and while I see Indy winning... I also see Romo with 260-1Int-2TD's.

The 3 QB's you list above all have tons of NFL experience, they also got most of if not all of those yards/TD's in garbage time in blowouts.

Well, the great thing about stats is you can manipulate them in many ways.

Indy stifled Leftwich 16/28 for 107 yards 2 INT's, held the Titans to 63 yards passing, 0 TD's and an INT, held Plummer to 174 yards and only 1 TD, lumped up MVP Tom Brady for 0 TD's and 4 INT's, and held Losman and the Bills to 83 yards passing and 0 TD's.

So, the inexperienced Romo has himself a tougher opponent this week. An opponent that also sucks against the run which should limit Romo's numbers as well. So, once again, I say: 150 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT's. :bash:

Shame on me you say? :D

:D

Who do you own? Romo or TO?

The Titans have no QB. The Bills have no QB. The Broncos have no QB. Leftwich is no QB. So you have cited examples of teams having bad stats when they have no QB. As far as Brady goes... well, the jury is still out. (That ought to get this thread hijacked.) :bash:

Romo, and yes I do own him, has shown some pretty good skills. And while he is probably not headed to the HoF, he is doing rather well. The running game of the cowboys will open things up very well for him to have a very decent game in a losing cause. (Probably in garbage time. LOL)

As much as I hate the cowboys, I have to say that they may have found themselves a QB. He has weapons downfield and he has a running game. He uses both very well and appears to make good decisions.

I will stick by my prediction as well.

(Have TO on the Heroes team in WCOFF.)

Game managers do not throw for an average of over 30 times per game ... ask Roethlisberger about his first two seasons.

Brad Johnson isn't much more then a game manager and he is averaging over 30 attempts this season.

Roethlisberger didn't have a high average because:

-he was a rookie with basically no significant NFL experience, even as a backup when he was asked to start 3 seasons ago. Romo has had at least a few years worth of playing with the big boys

-he didn't need to pass. Pittsburgh was primarily a running team and their defense was stout enough that they didn't need to attempt passes as much as other teams. Why risk throwing the ball a lot when you are winning and have a QB that is still developing. Dallas I don't think has the same running or defensive game that Pittsburgh had the past 2 years. So they need to throw the ball more.

I don't think Romo is merely game manager, but I also don't think he is a passing QB who will win you the game on a consistent basis. I think he is somewhere in between. He has put up some decent numbers against some good teams, but he also has only put up only slightly better numbers against really bad teams.
