Running back Thomas Jones jump-started the Bears late in the opening half on a 26-yard draw to convert a third-and-22 —

the first time an NFL team has gained a first down on a running play on third-and-20 or longer since 1999.

Sorry if it has already been mentioned, but I just heard this. Hard to believe? :D

That's an amazing stat. and while the giants might have gotten spanked anyway, that play really seemed to change the tone of the game.

Didn't Gore do this in the SF / Det game about 9 hrs earlier?

Looked at that stats, it was a bit shorter but had the same affect, totally decimated the home team. Brutal.

That amazes me - how many times on 3rd and really long when in their own end do they run the draw cause def. is in a semi-prevent and don't even want to take the chance of the pick. I'd say I see it once a game at least. So at 20 yds, maybe play is called 5 times a week - that's up near 100 a season. If those stats are close to accurate, I'd guess they make it maybe 5 times a year...not once in 7 years.

But I'll be honest, can't remember ever seeing one work....

No question about it. Momentum swing! Especially now that I know it hasn't been done in nearly 7 years. Figure Giants defensive coordinator must really be devasted. Had to be in a man to man coverage vs. zone.
