Wizards
He knows his colors as he calls them out at the line.....actually heard him say "red" and "blue" while watching the game on the ticket.....think his math is slowly coming around as he goes from Blue 54 to blue 27 ("half" of 54)....then runs a "full" sweep....should have been Blue 27 (handing it to Travis) to Blue 54 (Keeping it my self)....he likes snapdragons as I have heard him say that at the line too....think its a remark about Vick and STD's not sure.... Young also has been spotted tailgating on Staurday's at flea markets (selling kettle corn and pork rinds)...go figure....

Ursa Majoris
Whether he's stupid or not, he's become a borderline starter every week and is getting better every week too. There's bumps in the road to come, for sure, but I think Tennessee have something to build on here.

Ursa Majoris
Dumb quarterbacks don't succeed in this league. Look at Kerry Collins or Daunte Culpepper. Small brains. True dat. I've said before I think intelligence is a QBs greatest asset, qv. Manning. That said, Culpepper had some lengthy period of success as did Collins, to a lesser extent. Michael Vick isn't exactly Einstein either, though whether he's a worthwhile fantasy QB is open to conjecture (and is frequently conjectured right here). I have Young in three keeper leagues and may well hang on to him in one where he would only cost me a 10th round pick. Probably not the other two leagues, though. If the Titans give him some weapons, he may overcome his cro-magnon level brain, at least for a while.
Cowboyz1
He may not be able to speak eliquently or with the expected white clarity that we Americans expect but if you think you can play QB in the NFL and be stupid your crazy. You can get away with the Dumb Jock syndrome in High School and college but no way you can cover stupidity in todays game. (ie. Leaf) That being said, I really do have a hard time not cringing when a player stumbles through an interview like many do. However, it should be noted that rarely do we hear those country white boys from the South playing in the NFL speak publicly. Why, because they are not the spotlight, skill position, stars we want to hear! I was stationed in Louisiana and the things I heard there were unreal and from educated WHITE people. I didn't think that he was THAT bad. He's no McNabb or Warren Moon, but he doesn't sound like a complete illiterate or anything.

It's true for QBs because they need to speak publicly, but if you're a guard, and a borderline weetodd...you're good.
Bill Swerski
but if you're a guard, and a borderline weetodd...you're good. Not true. O-linemen are typically pretty intelligent and have to use their brains a lot more than, say, a RB or a LB.
Hugh 0ne
Not true. O-linemen are typically pretty intelligent and have to use their brains a lot more than, say, a RB or a LB. Matt Birk. He went to Harvard. I loved those commercials.
MikesVikes
Plummer doesn't seem like a genius to me. So obviously it's possible to play QB and not be a genius.
CD6405
Just because he can't speak clearly doesn't mean he is stupid; with that said, when he was on Jay Leno after he won the NC in college I thought he sounded borderline retarded. Plummer's thrown 2 more TD's than INT's in his 10 year career. I wouldn't rank him in the "good" Qb category.
Bill Swerski
Matt Birk. He went to Harvard. I loved those commercials. Geez, I'm not even sure if I remember those commercials. Doesn't surprise me that he went to Harvard, though. I don't know what it is, but most elite centers come off as pretty intelligent (Birk, Kevin Mawae, Jeff Saturday, Olin Kreutz). At the very least, they're better-spoken than most of their teammates.

Didn't say he was stupid. Football-smarts probably have a low-medium co-relation to typical academic smarts, mesasured by something like a Wonderlic Test. My comments were more in amazement of how the major school systems allows guys like Young to get through 3-4 years of 'higher education' without a basic learning of things we take somewhat for granted, ie, how to speak intelligibly. I stand corrected. I can't agree with you more on that statement. How did he pass Speach class which is a GE requirement. Same way he got through the others I guess. We aren't doing minority athletes or any other athlete any favors by shuffling them through schools to make millions just to end up broke at 26 or 40 because they have no other skills and are surrounded by the same idiots that they started with. For every Vince Young there are 10 Claretts. Same crap goes on in the NBA also.
Wizards
I don't think Young is totally ignorant....but when your first move in the NFL at the QB position is to "RUN" with 11 guys at average 4.5 speed coming like Amtraks at you....you just might be a red....arg...ignorant....Young doesn't have to articulate like Tiki Barber...but he shouldn't sound like one of da boys in the movie "Barbershop"...IQ is rather important in reading defenses, which by the way with minimal athletic ability and a great IQ you can succeed....to wit Peyton Manning-he can't run or out maneuver many..but he knows how to read a "D"...when to move up and he has an uncanny ability to be on the same page with his receivers.... I'm glad Young is not yapping like Walter in Oakland....Young just needs a veteran or a "GOOD" QB coach to work with....RDIF---Reading Defenses Is Fundamental to success...and the friggin answer isn't to run everytime like a looter in New Orleans... Primetime9287
Vince Young Interview Before Draft He doesn't sound dumb there. He seems like he might just be shy so maybe he gets nervous speaking in front of the media. I didn't see him speak after the game so I don't know what he did to make himself sound dumb but if he was stuttering, I would guess he was nervous.
