Brandon Stokley's Status

The problem even when Stokley is healthy is that the Colts constantly use a two TE set and do not use a slot receiver. Harrison and Wayne have been the only IND wideouts with a catch for the last four games - nothing to anyone else.

Stokley won't be good for much more than a couple of catches a game if that whenever he does return. The offense has evolved away from having a slot guy because two TE's give better blocking.

Have to disagree, DMD...when the Colts lock up home-field advantage (probably Week 14 or 15), Stokely will be seeing the lion's share of the looks while Wayne and Harrison are rested. I know Manning will laso be rested, but at the end of the day, Stokely will still be a sneaky play as a starting WR.

I think Stokely is defintiely worth a late-season flier.

Stokley missed practice again today. He's not gonna play Sunday.

When he does return, the Colts will use 3 WR sets more. They just haven't had a decent #3 WR, so they've been using 2 TE sets almost exclusively. That will change when Brandon gets back.

Perhaps but Stokley only scored once last year after playing in 15 games because they had already switched to the two TE scheme. Even healthy, he only had four games with more than 40 yards.

I wasn't implying he was going to turn in another monster year. Just that the Colts would still use him. His one full game this year against Tennessee, he was the Colts leading WR with 5 catches for 57 yards. And he left the game early with the sprained knee. . .

That's what Adam Schein and Soloman Wilcotts was discussing on Sirius NFL Radio the other day. They seem to think that, with Stokley back in the lineup, the two tight end set will pretty much go away with Stokley getting all of Clark and Utect's chances. They indicated that Clark's increased role in the passing game lately is a direct result of Stokley being out. Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Actually, haven't they been using Clark in the slot quite a bit this year? They're obviously still using the two-TE sets most of the time, but they don't seem to be exactly shying away from using a 3-WR set when they feel the need to run it.

I don't think the Colts will go exclusively to 3 wide sets once Brandon returns. They will still mix it up. A lot depends on match-ups from game to game. Clark has been in the slot a ton this year. I would expect him to get fewer of those once, maybe I should say "if", Stokley returns. But he would still be the #1 TE. Utecht and Fletcher would probably see the biggest drop in opportunities.

Actually he's been tremendously productive when he has played. In his ONE play vs. Houston he had a TD. He aggravated his high ankle sprain and left the game.

He returned against Tennessee, where he was Manning's favorite receiver. He sprained his knee, and has been out ever since.
