Rockerbraves
Did Coach Nolan wear a suit Sunday? Two NFL head coaches, Mike Nolan of San Francisco and Jack Del Rio of Jacksonville, are expected to wear suit-and-tie outfits on the sideline this weekend (if you count Monday as part of the weekend), breaking a 13-year league ban. Since 1993, coaches have been required to wear only NFL-sanctioned and licensed apparel during games. The current contract is with Reebok. Dan Reeves was the last NFL coach to dress up for games in the tradition of Tom Landry, Vince Lombardi, Weeb Eubank and all the other guys from the grainy, black-and-white era when men were men and nobody cared what they wore on the sideline. Has the league gone soft on marketing? Hardly. The suits that Nolan and Del Rio will wear are made by Reebok, something that really has them fretting over at Armani and Bill Blass. Nolan, who debuts the outfit Sunday against the Seahawks, will do so in part as a way of honoring his late father, Dick Nolan, who coached the 49ers for years and always wore a sharp suit. Del Rio puts on the threads Monday for a game against the Giants.
