Folks, doing a little research for work and wanted to ask you avid FF players here:

1. Do you also play fantasy baseball? What kind (Roto/total points scoring, head-to-head, 5x5, 7x7, etc...)

2. Why do you play? To keep up that competitive spirit after FF season is over? Just to keep interested in baseball?

3. If you don't play, why not? Is it too "intimidating" or complicated with all the crazy scoring categories? Is it too time-consuming as compared to FF? Is it even "nerdier" than FF?

4. What do you like about fantasy baseball that you don't about fantasy football, or vice versa?

5. If you don't play, what might change your mind about playing this upcoming baseball season?

6. Any other general thoughts about your experiences with fantasy baseball?

Thanks for any input. :D

And no, before you can say it, this is not research for another crappy fantasy book...: :D

Yes, I play H2H 6x6.

2. Why do you play? To keep up that competitive spirit after FF season is over? Just to keep interested in baseball?

It's very intense, requiring daily lineups. Mostly it's to fill the gap in the FF off-season

3. If you don't play, why not? Is it too "intimidating" or complicated with all the crazy scoring categories? Is it too time-consuming as compared to FF? Is it even "nerdier" than FF?

N/A

4. What do you like about fantasy baseball that you don't about fantasy football, or vice versa?

I like the daily games - football is just once a week

5. If you don't play, what might change your mind about playing this upcoming baseball season?

N/A

6. Any other general thoughts about your experiences with fantasy baseball?

It is far more frustrating than FF and it's tougher too, if you play in a daily lineup league. However, if you're in a good league with committed owners like Huddle on the Diamond, it's cool, and with the ubiquity of the Internet it's easy enough to keep up with lineups

Thanks for any input. :D

It's bad enough that you clutter up the main football forum with your man-love for Tom Brady. Now you post here about that most awful of all sports: baseball. You make me sick.

So I can assume you won't be interested in a spot in HotD if one comes up, then? :D

1. I played it once (total points scoring) and lost interest after about two months.

2. I played because I'm a huge baseball fan.

3. The biggest problem with fantasy baseball is that there are too many games and the season is too freaking long. I have a difficult time watching games on TV in August, much less maintaining a fantasy team for that long.

4. FF is more exciting than FB mostly because of the respective lengths of the seasons and because I can't pay attention to 162 freaking games.

5. If the season were limited to 60 or even 81 games, I might feel more inclined to play.

1 yes, and i love it! ours is a local 5x4 league (no whip), originally started in 1983 after someone saw an article in the local newspaper about the rotisserie league in new york city.

2 why. as for myself, i've always been a stat junkie, quiz show fan, history buff; but most of all sports fan. when this all started, i really got my head back into the box scores about every team. my head swims with names and numbers. and on the other side, and unlike pete rose, i never bet on baseball. it's always been about the game. now, when you really get down to it, it's about drafting my own roster and being the GM of my own team. i've got 24 on my roster (everyone plays everyday in our league) and i control my own fate. it's game by game, day by day, box score after box score, updated stats, current reslts, free agent lists, waiver moves, on a daily if not hourly basis. and i love it.

3 not applicable

4 fantasy baseball is everyday. fantasy football is once a week. baseball is 26 weeks long. fantasy football is only half (13 weeks). the playoffs in our football league make it interesting though. baseball is a reward for solid work up and down, left and right, begining to end. fantasy football in my head to head league leaves too much element of chance (not that it's hurt) enter the picture.

5 not applicable

6 the entertainment value overrides everything. baseball is just like being a kid again. i've got my head in the boxscores every morning. this winter i'll follow every (well almost every) move and try to remember that alfonso soriano was a good pick even in the outfield. i'll gear up for the april 1st draft with a mag in mid january. and then i'll be off till oct 1st.

Yes. Head to Head.

2. Why do you play? To keep up that competitive spirit after FF season is over? Just to keep interested in baseball?

I love baseball...it just makes it that much more fun to watch...and yes, I need something to keep me sharp during football offseason...I love the competition...3. If you don't play, why not? Is it too "intimidating" or complicated with all the crazy scoring categories? Is it too time-consuming as compared to FF? Is it even "nerdier" than FF?

At this point, so many people play fantasy sports that it's not considered nerdy, although I could give a crap if it was...I am comfrotable with my coolness (or lack thereof).

4. What do you like about fantasy baseball that you don't about fantasy football, or vice versa?

I love the fact that it's an almost every night action thing...always something happening everynight. You can also count on players playing roughly to their potential. This helps when trading...what goes up mostly comes down and vice versa...5. If you don't play, what might change your mind about playing this upcoming baseball season?

6. Any other general thoughts about your experiences with fantasy baseball?

Love it. My advice to those that do not try it: I think it really amps up the baseball experience for you. You can go low key to very strategic...leagues are at both ends of the spectrum and everywhere in between. It leads you right back into football season too... :D

Thanks for any input. :D

1. Do you also play fantasy baseball? What kind (Roto/total points scoring, head-to-head, 5x5, 7x7, etc...)

Yes. I play in 2 7X7 weekly H2H leagues. The categories for bats are HR, RBI, R, AVG, OBP, SB and K's. The categories for pitching are W, L, K, Saves, ERA, WHIP and Holds. One is a friends big money league and the other was a league that was formed here at the Huddle. PSULions, GhostofJohnnyU, proninja, Torn, notfragilefreddie and posty are a few of the people that are involved. It's been going for at least 5 years now and was born from an old Huddle baseball forum

2. Why do you play? To keep up that competitive spirit after FF season is over? Just to keep interested in baseball?

For the true stat freaks (raises hand) nothing compares to the daily action.

3. If you don't play, why not? Is it too "intimidating" or complicated with all the crazy scoring categories? Is it too time-consuming as compared to FF? Is it even "nerdier" than FF?

Much nerdier than Fantasy Football

4. What do you like about fantasy baseball that you don't about fantasy football, or vice versa?

Baseball is much more in depth. More strategy with pitching and hitting (although I've never played in an IDP league)

5. If you don't play, what might change your mind about playing this upcoming baseball season?

N/A - After football season ends you look forward to the words "pitchers and catchers report in 10 days . . "

6. Any other general thoughts about your experiences with fantasy baseball?

IF you're a stat freak nothing compares to Fantasy Baseball. Nothing. The only complaint I have about baseball is that it is a long & grueling season. Preparation starts in March and the games end in October. I still love it though.

Thanks for any input. :D

I love Fantasy Football. But playing Fantasy Baseball is like Football Sunday EVERY DAY for 5 months. Games every day day & night. Football is awesome. But during the regular season, once you get your WW claims on Tuesday night and set your lineup on Wednesday morning there is a lot of down time for the next few days before Sunday rolls around.

Yes, head-to head, 7x5 auction is my main, rotisserie redraft at work, another head-to-head redraft.

2. Why do you play? To keep up that competitive spirit after FF season is over? Just to keep interested in baseball?

I play because it is a lot of fun. Your favorite players literally play every night!!

3. If you don't play, why not? Is it too "intimidating" or complicated with all the crazy scoring categories? Is it too time-consuming as compared to FF? Is it even "nerdier" than FF?

n/a, and yes it is nerdier.

4. What do you like about fantasy baseball that you don't about fantasy football, or vice versa?

Imagine if you got to brag about owning LT 162 times!! I also enjoy it because it is the most true of all fantasy sports, with #'s not being AS dependent on outside forces. A lucky or hot string of games doesn't win fantasy baseball championships like it can and often does in football. Also, in baseball, more than any other sport, the very best players are also the very best fantasy players. i.e. Randy Moss. In fantasy baseball, even if he were on the Kansas City Royals, a player of his caliber would be a good fantasy player.

5. If you don't play, what might change your mind about playing this upcoming baseball season?

6. Any other general thoughts about your experiences with fantasy baseball?

Ryan Howard and Johan Santana equals $$$$$$

Thanks for any input. :D

1. Do you also play fantasy baseball? What kind (Roto/total points scoring, head-to-head, 5x5, 7x7, etc...)

10 team NL 4x4 (traditional) non-keeper.

2. Why do you play? To keep up that competitive spirit after FF season is over? Just to keep interested in baseball?

Baseball's a great game, I'm a stat freak, and I like the competition. But most importantly, we formed this league back in college in 1989 and it's kept everyone in touch even though we've spread coast-to-coast and in between.

3. If you don't play, why not? Is it too "intimidating" or complicated with all the crazy scoring categories? Is it too time-consuming as compared to FF? Is it even "nerdier" than FF?

Baseball is more available to quantitative analysis. So, yeah, it's nerdier.

4. What do you like about fantasy baseball that you don't about fantasy football, or vice versa?

What I like about fantasy baseball is that it's a longer, but less frenetic season. While some players, like Romo, emerge in mid-season in football, the impact of reserves and minor league callups is greater in baseball. You really have to know the organizations thoroughly to be competitive in deep leagues. What I like about football is that it's once a week and you don't have to rein yourself in and remind yourself about regression to mean. Like George Allen said, the future is now.

5. If you don't play, what might change your mind about playing this upcoming baseball season?

N/A

6. Any other general thoughts about your experiences with fantasy baseball?

Fantasy baseball is a great complement to football, because the tempo is so different. My personal belief is that the grueling duration of the season makes it more important to be in a local or in a league where you know your competitors personally.

Thanks for any input. :D

1. Do you also play fantasy baseball? What kind (Roto/total points scoring, head-to-head, 5x5, 7x7, etc...)

I have played Fantasy Baseball for about 10 years. I currently play 2 head-to-head 6x6 leagues and another dynasty type league that uses a salary cap and the real major league contracts.

2. Why do you play? To keep up that competitive spirit after FF season is over? Just to keep interested in baseball?

I play beacuase I am a baseball fan and baseball lends itself very well to fantasy. There are so many stat categories and strategies.

I like the fact that baseball is every day. Those who put in the most work usually win. I also like that there are many diffeent strategies in Fantasy Baseball. Most FFers use similar strategies; they just try to do it better than other owners.

5. If you don't play, what might change your mind about playing this upcoming baseball season?

N/A

6. Any other general thoughts about your experiences with fantasy baseball?

It is a sport better suited for fantasy than football because of the variety of stats and the longer season. The cream usually rises.

Yup, one roto league and one H2H league. 6 cat's each.

2. Why do you play? To keep up that competitive spirit after FF season is over? Just to keep interested in baseball?

I enjoy the preparation. I enjoy "day games" and watching my fantasy players.

3. If you don't play, why not? Is it too "intimidating" or complicated with all the crazy scoring categories? Is it too time-consuming as compared to FF? Is it even "nerdier" than FF?

4. What do you like about fantasy baseball that you don't about fantasy football, or vice versa?

Hmm, interesting question. Fantasy football, to me, is more of a sprint. Fantasy baseball is certainly more of a marathon. You can rarely be beat by the "fluke" game. You're not as befallen by key injuries, because you're usually stocked with backups.

5. If you don't play, what might change your mind about playing this upcoming baseball season?

N/A

6. Any other general thoughts about your experiences with fantasy baseball?

It's worth a try for anyone that really enjoys fantasy football. Especially those in dynasty football leagues that enjoy the pure management side of things. The day-to-day operation really wouldn't bother you. Draft preparation is intense, there are more "schemes" you can try (punting saves, drafting for power, etc.).

Folks, doing a little research for work and wanted to ask you avid FF players here.

My answers may get me blacklisted around here because I prefer fantasy baseball over fantasy football. I love fantasy football but fantasy baseball blows it away.

1. Do you also play fantasy baseball? What kind (Roto/total points scoring, head-to-head, 5x5, 7x7, etc...)

I currently play in 2 leagues and both are H2H. I've also played in a 5x5 roto and although there were some benefits to that format I like the "drama" of head to head better.

2. Why do you play? To keep up that competitive spirit after FF season is over? Just to keep interested in baseball?

I like the sport of baseball, but I mostly play because I find it challenging. Due to the effort and knowledge that it requires to excel at baseaball, I take much more pride in winning a fantasy baseball championship than I do winning a fantasy football championship.

The main thing that I like better about it is that it requires more knowledge and much less luck. In FF it very often seems like the guy with the 4,5,6th best team that barley squeeks into the playoffs ends up winning. With baseball the team that truly had the best team usually wins. Luck is much less of a factor. I also love the everyday aspect. There nothing better than watching your scoreboard light up with points from 1pm till 2am 7 days a week. It's always there. You can be losing your game on Wed and then have 3 pitchers throw gems over the weekend, maybe get a HR from a SS that only hit 4-5 a year and squeek out a win on Sunday night. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I like that the drama is prolonged. It's kinda like comparing tantric sex to regular sex. Or as one of my league mates always say's.. fantasy baseball is like dinner and fantasy football is like dessert.

5. If you don't play, what might change your mind about playing this upcoming baseball season?

N/A I've played for almost 10 years and will never stop

6. Any other general thoughts about your experiences with fantasy baseball?

Since joining an IDP football league a couple years a ago, I have started to enjoy FF much more. It makes it feel more like fantasy baseball from a knowledge standpoint. It's actually gotten to a point where I can't even do team defense leagues anymore. Team D leagues are just so brainless. Everyone works of the same general cheatsheet (give or take a few players) and whoever gets luckiest with injuries and picking up those 1-2 FA players that come up big EX: M. Colston wins. IDP is awesome! I love the fact that a good D can win a game for you and that you also have twice as many players to research, watch and root for on Sunday's. Anyone that isn't doing IDP is missing out...big time

Thanks for any input. :D

1. Do you also play fantasy baseball? What kind (Roto/total points scoring, head-to-head, 5x5, 7x7, etc...)

I play in a few different leagues. A few head-to-head and a few roto. Also, one auction/dynasty league (which is H2H) and one other keeper league (also H2H).

2. Why do you play? To keep up that competitive spirit after FF season is over? Just to keep interested in baseball?

I actually like fantasy baseball more than fantasy football. Baseball is my favorite sport, and playing fantasy baseball is an easy and fun way to get to know every player on every team. Also keeps me watching as many games as possible during the year.

Fantasy baseball gives you action every single day of the season.

Also, the reality is that baseball is predictable. Football is fun, and the random unknown results derived from a short season, matchups, and frequent injuries can be enjoyable. But I personally prefer the (often) reliable numbers of baseball. Preseason projections have far more accuracy, if you know what you are doing. Of course, not everybody does know what they are doing, so people who do have sound strategies can often be successful, and there is something to be said for knowing that, if you are good and do your homework, you will have a very strong chance of doing well that year.

Personally, I put in an equal amount of time into draft preparation for baseball and football, but the results are definitely not equal. In general, I do well in football, but have had plenty of mediocre or even downright bad seasons. Meanwhile, in baseball, I don't think I've ever finished out of the money in any of my leagues.

5. If you don't play, what might change your mind about playing this upcoming baseball season?

N/A

6. Any other general thoughts about your experiences with fantasy baseball?

Auctions are the best, same as in fantasy football. Everyone should have the chance to get every player.

Roto leagues reward the best teams more than H2H leagues. But the race for first is often over by the middle of the season. Head to head leagues keep everyone interested and active, especially if there are playoffs and half the teams make it to the postseason. But there is a downside to having one week head to head matchups, which can introduce a randomness that is similar to (but not equal to) the randomness of fantasy football.

Folks, doing a little research for work and wanted to ask you avid FF players here:

1. Do you also play fantasy baseball? What kind (Roto/total points scoring, head-to-head, 5x5, 7x7, etc...)

Yep, one Head-to-Head and one 5X5 each year. Anymore gets too tough to keep up with.

2. Why do you play? To keep up that competitive spirit after FF season is over? Just to keep interested in baseball?

Actually play football just to keep occupied until baseball comes around again (but don't tell the huddlers)

Fantasy baseball allows a lot more inlfuence and a lot less luck than football. WW is available 24/7. Preparation is more readliy rewarded. You're not at the whim of one game to make or break your season.

5. If you don't play, what might change your mind about playing this upcoming baseball season?

Yes, roto and H2H 5x5

2. Why do you play? To keep up that competitive spirit after FF season is over? Just to keep interested in baseball?

To pass time waiting for football. It does keep me interested in baseball.

4. What do you like about fantasy baseball that you don't about fantasy football, or vice versa?

Football's great because it builds up to just a few days and it like a sprint where you have to win fast. Baseball is like a marathon where you have plenty of time to build your winning team.

5. If you don't play, what might change your mind about playing this upcoming baseball season?

6. Any other general thoughts about your experiences with fantasy baseball?

I've done a H2H points system too, like football, and that can make it more interesting than just 5x5.
