Local sports talk radio shows are putting it at 90% that the Tigers are headed to the Rose. It's also been reported LSU has already pre-sold 30,000 plus tickets for the game, which should help their chances. What's interesting is that a special guest with both Rose Bowl & LSU affiliation came on one of the shows yesterday and said it's almost a done deal that LSU gets the invite, but left the door open as to which team LSU will be playing between Michigan and Notre Dame. The consensus around here is that it will be Michigan which is what the Tiger fans hope for. Guess we'll have to wait till Sunday to find out anything for certain.

I think its at least 90% for Michigan at this point too. With ND out, I can look forward to the Rose again - should be a great one with 2 great defenses. (We all keep assuming the Bruins have no chance Saturday in Pasadena, and I hope we're right...)

Thought you might find it funny that some LSU fans are hoping USC loses to the Bruins just to get a crack at the Trojans. :D The radio host like me can not understand why anyone would prefer to play a USC team which would drop significantly in the rankings should they lose to UCLA vs. playing a #3 ranked Michigan team from the Big Ten. Not sure where you live but if it's anywhere around Pasadena and you are looking for some good old college football smack talk then I suggest you walk around the Rose Bowl on game day sporting your best Trojan outfit.

Same goes for you Big John even if you might not be a true Trojan fan. Buy yourself some type of USC crap and get on out there early game day. Think you'll enjoy watching how intense yet fun the Tiger fans can be.

That hurts. I had free 50 yd-line tix to the Tenn LSU game this year that I gave up because I had to fire my sous chef the weekend before and couldn't get away. That just reminds me how much fun it would have been. Well everything but the end at least.

My daughter made that trip up to Tennessee without tickets as is the norm with her bunch of good lookin gals. Been meaning to tell her we need to have all her fiends over for a slumber party like the old days. Anyway, tickets were going for a minimum of $75 on game day yet they ended up getting 4 for a total of $20. She had nothing but good things to say about the beauty of the campus and the friendly Vol fans. Apparently there's a river close to the stadium because she called me right after the game and told me they were headed to a barge?

There are always a bunch of party boats on the river before and after the game. They are a great batch of people and it is truly a remarkable experience. "Beauty" is not a word I would use to describe the stadium, however. Taking away the holy land element that any Vols fan would feel for it, the building itself is downright hideous.

She mentioned the lights on the bridge. Reminder her of the Christmas lights in Natchitoches. LA.

Wow RB, you blew right past the phrase 'party boat'. You must be one of those open-minded Dads, and I'm sure she appreciates it....

Can't think of any Minn. Vikings that went to LSU or UT off the top of my head, so she should be cool.

I think the arguments in that article against LSU are weak, especially the bit about neither Mich or LSU winning their conferences. OK then, take Wake Forest and Louisville/Rutgers. Enjoy.

If the Rose Bowl does have first pick and doesn't opt for LSU/Mich (assuming USC wins), they'll be cutting off their nose to spite their face and should be considered the laughing stock of the bowls.

Hopefully you're correct. Would think all the bowls would be applying pressure on the Rose to take the obvious better matchup to avoid fueling any playoff flames which would jeopardize the present day status of all the bowl games.

I dont understand why LSU is Rose Bowl worthy. They are not even good enough to make their conference Championship game, let alone actually have a chance to win the conference. Yet they are worthy of the #2 bowl this yr behind only the NC game. Sorry, but this is as bad as ND playing in this game to me. Id much rather see someone more deserving than LSU in the Grandaddy of them all. But like SC, at least it will be fun watching those 2 teams get killed by superior Big 10 teams this yr.

Ahhh yes. The pagentry of college football. BCS bowl game selections have replaced the bowl game day floats. What they need to do is have Dick Clark and Kelly Ripa do a selection show piece. I am sure the rabid college football fans would love to hear them make a case for teams to be in bowl games.

College football is a joke. Stop robbing us every year and give us a PLAYOFF! You never know, even a hack like OU could surprise someone. Maybe not.

To be honest, I can't understand it myself. Who would have thought even a week ago LSU would be ranked #5 with a chance to go to THE Grandaddy of them all Rose Bowl. It's amazing to realize LSU might actually go to a better bowl than Florida even if the Gators win this Saturday. Might find out Sunday it was nothing but a dream, but lets assume the matchup happens. By the time ABC and ESPN get done pitching their only BCS Bowl game of the season the LSU vs. Michigan game will be regarded as a second national championship of sorts. No doubt this will be the best matchup outside of the BCS title game. BCS #3 vs. potentially BCS #4, arguably #1 conference SEC vs. #2 conference Big 10.

Granted lots of things had to happen for LSU to be considered for the Rose Bowl and I would like to personally thank the Hogs for a great game on national TV, USC for putting a beaten on ND, S. Florida for exposing WV, & A&M for knocking out the defending National Champions. Thank You Guys. Another unusal thing that had to happen was not making it to the SEC Championship Game where the winner goes to the Sugar. Almost feels like 2003 again when LSU won the NC game vs. your Sooners.

Except LSU is clearly outclassed by Michigan, and have 2 loses already, and has an average at best coach, instead of Nick Saban. And LSU was actually playing in La, at the Superdome, instead of the Rose Bowl. Oh and they played in their conference Championship game that year. But other than that, its just like 2004. :D

If things work out BCS bowl wise like the experts are predicting you could say these last few weeks of college football played out very much like a playoff. FYI: Oklahoma wouldn't have made the playoffs unless you were going 16 to 20 deep.

First it was the Big East on stage (Louisville, WV & Rutgers), then the Big Ten showdown, followed by ND/USC and a handful of what now look to be critical matchups in the Big 12 and SEC. Now we enter the quarterfinals & semi's this week to determine the participants of the Championship game in Glendale.

BCS may not be perfect but it did accomplish one thing this year. Provide national attention to regional games.
