Sgt. Ryan
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2682215 Blanco: 'Our team deserves a BCS berth'ESPN.com news services BATON ROUGE, La. -- Gov. Kathleen Blanco has called the presidents of the Rose Bowl Presened by Citi and the FedEx Orange Bowl to lobby LSU for a high Bowl Championship Series berth. "Anyone who follows college football knows this has been a successful year for LSU and we Tiger fans are some of the most passionate fans in college sports," she said Thursday. "Our team deserves a BCS berth." "I am reminding representatives of these bowls of the excitement our state shares for this team and everything we offer as LSU fans. An invitation to any of these bowls would be a major win for both LSU and the bowls themselves," she said. At No. 5 in the BCS and Associated Press standings, the Tigers (10-2) are considered to have a good chance to be invited to the Rose Bowl. While officials have denied media reports that LSU will be invited to the Rose Bowl, The Shreveport Times reported the school had already sold more than 38,000 pre-sale orders for tickets -- at $135 per ticket -- as of Thursday night. Blanco, whose husband has coached college and high school football, spoke with Rose Bowl president and CEO Paul Holman about the Tigers' successful season and enthusiasm about the bowl in Pasadena. Last month, Blanco hosted Holman and Tournament of Roses Committee members at the Governor's Mansion during the group's visit to Louisiana. She also spoke with Orange Bowl president Eric Poms about the possibility of the Tigers heading to Miami. Both bowls are expected to make their announcements Sunday. A BCS berth for LSU depends on the outcome of two conference championships Saturday: The Southeastern Conference title game between Arkansas and No. 4 Florida and Arkansas and the Pac-10 title game between No. 2 USC (10-1) and heavy underdog UCLA. The Associated Press contributed to this story.

Coffeeman
BATON ROUGE, La. -- Gov. Kathleen Blanco, whose husband has coached college and high school football, spoke with Rose Bowl president and CEO Paul Holman about the Tigers' successful season and enthusiasm about the bowl in Pasadena. I just distilled this to the essential elements, and find it funny that the author bothers to mention her husband's coaching. If the gov was a guy, I doubt they'd mention it if his wife used to be a college football or NFL cheerleader. (Unless they had pics!) As if to say, "Hey, we know she's a chick, but her husband was a coach, so she knows what she's talking about..."
Sgt. Ryan
You have lost all credibility on this forum. LMAO, thank you for the compliment. Bottom line is LSu is the most over-rated team in the country, even more so than SC. And if those facts bother you, then so be it. LSU has no business being in the top 5 or even top 8 for that matter, and isnt even good enough to get to their conference Championship game, yet they are ranked #5. Sorry, that sad sack team is on its way to a ass whipping if it faces Michigan, and if Arkansas beats Fla, and Fla goes to the Oragne bowl, LSU will be in the also ran bowl, they belong in. It is just a popularity contest to most people. Even a friggen government official is making her case. What a joke. LSU is a good team and they have theirselves to blame for losing to Florida. They are a better team than Florida IMO. I picked them at the beginning of the year to be in the BCS championship, but oh well. In the college game, you can't lose a couple and still have any hope at all. PLAYOFF.

Hardly, I bash the trash yu Oprahers praise about. Trust me, it pains me to give credit to Ohio St this yr , and Texas last yr. But when you are the best team in the country, its hard to argue with that. LSu and Sc are no where near the best teams in the country and in a playoff, they wouldnt make it past the first round. Well with the system we have today, LSU made it past another round last week beating a top ten team Arkansas on the road. USC also ripped another top 10 team last week. OU squeaked by Oklahoma State. Those are the facts.
sacosud
I think LSU and Michigan is a good match up, but just to really cause some trouble I'm rooting on Arkansas and UCLA today. I was against a Michigan and OSU rematch in the begining since it's been done already, however now I would not mind seeing a all BIG TEN final just to see all the crying and moaning the rest of the nation does. I know it's not going to happen and OSU will play USC which is another classic meeting like the good "ole" days of Rose Bowl era's. The worst thing is I have to dvr the games and make sure no one tells me a word taking my son to the Circus to see the SEC cheerleaders waddle around the ring and do tricks for the kiddies. sacosud
Don't get too nervous yet. Think the closer we get to the NC game the more and more both Ohio State and Michigan will have wished for the security of an all big ten rematch. I won't be nervous as a Buckeye fan. I can not speak for Michigan. I would be more nervous playing Michigan at this point. I think they match up alot better against OSU than USC does. I guess that really comes down to Steve Smith as the X factor there. I see USC and OSU as a higher scoring affair John David Booty will have to beat us with his arm and Tress and Carol match wits well. I think OSU has more depth on offense than the Trojans and that's not taking anything against USC they are a special team. I'm not impressed with USC running game from what I have seen. I think they focus on throwing the ball more than running the ball. I think that plays right into Tress's hands, Jim Tressel's first ploy will be to try and make the Trojans a 1 horse team. OSU will stack the box and make booty beat us with his arm. The Bucks will try the exact same thing they did with Michigan and that's get to Booty before the playmaker wr's can get open. USC will start right out the gate throwing alot!!!! This will loosen OSU run defense and help keep Booty upright if OSU has to respect the run then OSU will be in a little more hot water. USC will use slants and quick passes/screens to try to do this. When I say OSU has more depth than USC on offense, I really mean no disrespect to USC it's that OSU can spread you out with 4/5 wr spread and it's really not the BIG GUNS Ginn,Gonzo,Smith that kill you it's the under guys that hurt teams Hartline,Roy Hall, Robskie,Nichol,Pittman and Chris Wells. OSU runs the ball just good enough(not great) but enough to get respect. How do you cover all those guys and cover the the back!!!! It's not easy. USC will try to take Ginn out of the game and most likely special attention to Gonzo. OSU will have Antonio Smith #14 on Jarret and roll Jenkins to help taking Jarret out of the game. USC beats OSU it will have to be with wr Steve Smith and the running game. USC has to figure out how to handle that spread offense(blitz the bucks)and make Smith beat you with his legs and hope he can't. I say this because I think if you want to stop the Buckeyes you have to get to Smith before those 4/5 wr can get open. The problem is the longer the defense is in coverage someone is getting open, if I was Carol and I'm not of course I'm sure he is a smarter Coach than I could ever be, however I would do what I had too do to get to Smith and try to get as much pressure as possible on Troy I don't want those 4/5 wr's running around the coverage after spreading my defense out. Let's face it at some point you have to roll the dice with Ginn and play him man to man. I would jam the heck out of Ginn every play just make it a phyical battle for Ginn all night long. I don't understand why most teams don't try to do this. I have watched teams have success with this and for some reason go away from it. Texas used this quite well on Ginn in "05" and Penn State "05" we lost both games and in both games Ginn was beaten up the whole game. What I see mostly on Ginn and I do not know why teams give him like a 12 yard cushion and place the quickest db they have on him(mistake) OSU is happy to throw a quick slant/out and gain 7 yards each time they go to Ginn. I can say my heart and mind would feel much better with USC than Michigan. I just think Michigan has the best front 4 in the nation and can put pressure on Smith without blitzing. I just don't know if USC can do the same. I only want the rematch because it would be good for the BIG TEN and OSU can not win it and I thought I would never say this, but another BIG TEN team winning would not be as painful as losing to someone like Fla,LSU,or Notre Dame. Isn't it funny how bitter conference rivals can actually root or come to the defense of their hated rival when their rival is being threaten by an outside source? Sort of like a brother bullying his brother, but if anyone else trys to bully him, watch out!
