WorstCoachingEver
Nice job Norv Turner. You are going up against one of the worst rush D's in the league. And what do you do? You throw ALMOST EVERY first down, thus taking Gore out of the game (13 carries, 40 yrds) . Kinda hard to get the run game going when you have 2nd down and 10 every series. Why is it the coaching & not the fact that Gore was doing nothing against the Saints D? Every week we hear from the media how it was some extenuating circumstance that caused the Saints to win. It started week three when everyone blamed the turf. How about a little respect for a change? Edited December 3, 2006 by rajncajn
WorstCoachingEver
Why is it the coaching & not the fact that Gore was doing nothing against the Saints D? Maybe if you watched the game (in a non-Saints homer fashion) they never established the run at the beginning of the game. His production on 13 carries isn't enough to say he played bad. Kinda hard to get 20+ carries when you get far behind b/c you didn't run your best player in the first half. mitpdub
Agreed the playcalling was poor and they threw way too much. The defense did poorly also. The whole team looked like a step slow today compared to their norm. I wonder if this was a case where a young team shows up to Bourbon street for the first time and forgot about the game the next day? Alex Smith and the O-line was especially bad today. After Bryant had that long TD, they took a huge chance with calling the onside kick THEN recovering, 1st and 10 then went deep AGAIN to Bryant. Interception, Saints' ball on the SF 6. Now I didn't see the pick (it may have been tipped or whatever) but it's just a stupid play call after taking a big chance on the onside kick. Nevermind that the Saints was JUST burnt long by Bryant. The Niners were only down 14-10 at that point, stick with the run and march down the field and at least kick a FG.

Call it what you will, but I saw an awful lot of Gore with minimal or no gains in the first half. Of course it's easy to say they quit giving the ball to him because the Saints got ahead, but he wasn't doing much when he did get the ball regardless.
