Hey Steelers Homers...

The Baltimore game was understandable but really despite a couple of long runs 3 games ago he really hasnt done much. Sure he is scoring TDs and is the workhorse back for the Steelers, but if you take away those long runs Willie really hasnt been piling up the yardage.

Has Willie hit the wall this year? Is the Offensive Line to blame? Is Willie just not that good? Whats the story? FWP has been a great fantasy back this season but I can plug in the red hot MBIII for the playoffs.

Haven't watched a lot of Steeler games, but have been fairly impressed with Willie's numbers throughout this season. I always thought the biggest negative with this guy was that with his small size, his success seemed predicated on hitting a long run sometime during the game.

I think the fact that Roethlisberger has been exposed as a terrible quarterback has allowed defenses to focus on stuffing the run, thereby diminishing Parker's fantasy value.

your an idiot and it shows how much you have watched the steelers this year to comment on this.

I can't vouch for the accuracy of defenses stacking the run against the Steelers, but with Big Ben's rating similar to such hacks as Frye, Johnson, and Grossman it can't be helping the running game.

Why do people insist on doing this? How is a back expected to pile up yardage without having a few long runs scattered here and there? It's nonsense to take any run out of the stats in the same way as it's nonsense to discount the times he's been stuffed in the backfield.

If you take away Big Bender's INT's he'd have a much better QB rating this year.

you watched the game vs pittsburgh.. didnt you see how pathetic their line is? its been that inconsistent all year. a bunch of ben's ints are from tipped balls off the receiver or forced heaves at the end of games.

Mr. Menudo, please pick up the white courtesy phone.

Nope, I'm not going to be spend my time defending the Steelers play this season. They have been inconsitent, and Ben has been the leader of inconsitency. Don't get me wrong, the guy still has a lot of talent, and it shows up on plays where he scramble and improvises. However, he is still making BAD decisions this year that he hasn't made in the past. Yes, he has had some bad breaks with tipped balls, receivers missing routes, etc., but, he takes a lot of the blame as well, as he isn't making the same good decisions that take care of the ball, which is what made him so good in his first two years.

Don't think for one second that I am blaming all of the offensive problems on Ben. The offensive line, which should be ashamed, because they have a lot of talent, has been mostly poor this season. It is really hard to believe that a unit that was so strong last year, could turn so poor a year later. I don't have the answers for what to do, but, I just know that this ins't the Steeler line I'm used to seeing.

So, for those that want to see me get dragged into the defend the Steelers and especially Roethlisberger at all costs, sorry to disappoint you, but, I just can't do it this year. :D

Sorry, got sidetracked with that last post. On the topic of this thread, I think Willie Parker has been one of the lone bright spots in a dismal year. He is improving as a back. Remember, last year was essentially a rookie season for him. As to the decline the last two games, the first one was the Ravens, and the Steelers got completely run over. No one had any success in that game. There is no excuse for the poor line play against the Bucs on running plays. I thought Willie ran hard, like always, but, he had no lanes to run. I still see a lot of room for improvement in Willie Parker. He still makes the wrong cut at times, and has a tendency to try to force the use of his speed (trying to bounce outside, when it isn't there), but I think he is growing as a back, and I know I will get ripped for this, but, has Tiki Barber POTENTIAL in him. I still think the Steelers need to find ways to get him the ball more and more in the passing game. It has been effective when they have done it. One thing he certainly has proved is his durability. He will end the season breaking the record for the most carries by a Steeler back, if he remains healthy. Despite his size, he can run between the tackles. I look for a good game for him tonight, and in keeper/dynasty leagues, the sky is the limit on his potential. He could eventually be a consisten top 5 running back.

I agree with every word of this. Parker is improving in leaps and bounds. Sure, he's had down days but he has all the tools, including a good attitude, to be at least a top 10 RB for years to come.

Most football fans this year are too lazy to look past the stat line. He has played much better than final stat lines show. He is scrambling for his life on every play. Most QBs would be dead by now. And there is a difference in throwing INTs in the last few minutes of a loss (see Denver, Jags, and Baltimore). He has about 8 really bad INTs, but the others, I really don't feel too bad about. Wrs have run the wrong route on a couple. There have been at least 3 tipped. It's not really as bad as it appears.

Well, it jives with the comments that the offensive line has been crap all season. I love the way Willie runs actually he is fast, strong and tough. Has the makings of a top back I think.

I totally agree with this which is why I was perplexed more by the poor performance against the Bucs than the Ravens.

Btw, one scouting report I read actually (dare I say) mentioned he had "Barry Sanders like skills". wow. Thats a big statement.

If you take away the Steelers Super Bowl victory last year, they haven't won the Super Bowl since the 70's...

:D I thought I had heard the end of that one, but, of course, you found a way to bring it back to me....

Thanks Menudo. I will admit I got a bit "annoyed" with your "distracted" post (because it seemed like you went off on a tangent, but no worries), but you came through with this one.

Parker was still there in the third round of our local and I grabbed him then. Sixth overall for offensive player scoring in our local league (non-PPR), to say I'm pleased with the results is an understatement.

Ben is leading the NFL with 20 int's and played 1 game less than most QB's. Not all int's from any qb are bad throws. Everyone throws int's on tipped balls and have wr's run the wrong route...I don't believe he threw 12 int's that were'nt his fault. That's absurd. And I live where I get the Steeler's games every week so I'm not just looking at the stat line.... :D
