BREAKING NEWS ...

Rich Rodriguez will be named the new head football coach at the University of Alabama in a Friday press conference. The West Virginia coach will take over the Crimson Tide program vacated by Mike Shula, who was fired two weeks ago.

Rodriguez and his wife, Rita, met with Alabama athletic director Mal Moore in New York City earlier in the week, and according to sources at both West Virginia and Alabama, Moore called Rodriguez Wednesday night with an official offer.

Rodriguez is in Jacksonville on Thursday and is scheduled to fly via private plane to Tuscaloosa early Friday morning for a press conference later in the day.

The terms of Rodriguez's contract with Alabama is not known at this time, other than Alabama has agreed to pay the $2 million buyout in his West Virginia contract.

According to one West Virginia assistant coach, Rodriguez will like to coach the Mountaineers in their upcoming Gator Bowl game before taking over in Tuscaloosa, but no official agreement has been reached yet.

Looks like a solid hire to me- he should be able to recruit some athletes at Bama. The guy sure knows how to coach offense that is fo sure.

Bama fans will be excited about the hire if RR shows up Friday. :D

Can't believe Sabin let his agent actually talk to Bama. That has to hurt Sabin's relationship with his present boss in Miami. Guess it's hard not to talk to someone who is offering you 5 million a year for multiply years.

Can't believe how these coaches angrily deny rumors about their moves, only to shamelessly accept the offer 2 days later. Show a little integrity :D

Wouldn't think Integrity is a word used very often when describing most big time football coaches. Much like presidents of fortune 500 companies.

What's really tough about coaches denying these rumors is for the school that gets left behind. At least if RR decides to leave, West Virginia can start looking for his replacement. Can recall how Nick Sabin waited till the last minute to announce he was leaving LSU which seriously hurt the school's recruiting that year.
