Should Parcell be upset at pupil?

How do you think Parcell felt about the Saints offense taking a knee with 3 minutes left in the game? As a Coach would you appreciate Peyton's play calling at the end of the game or would it have ticked you off?

Side note: Personally I see nothing wrong with the onside kick since the game was still somewhat in doubt at that time.

I think most coaches get p1ssed off when opposing coaches run up the score, so I can't imagine he'd be upset at Payton for mercifully putting an end to it rather trying to score again. I think this is even more evidenced by the Cowboys taking a knee as well instead of trying for cosmetic points.

I think it was irrelevant to him. His team had already gotten their ass handed to them. When Dallas got the ball back they did the same thing.

I saw nothing wrong with the onside kick either. I'm probably in the minority here but, if I was the opposing coach, a kneel down inside the 5 with three minutes left is more of a slap in the face than if they went ahead and punched it in.

Parcell & the Cowboys would have looked silly had they tried to score after that. In short Parcell had little choice but to kneel down after the Saints did it first. Really haven't seen that happen very much at all in the NFL with 3 minutes left. Losing teams never quitting is sort of what sets pro ball apart from college football. Thought Peyton should have called a few predictable conservative run plays that would have accomplished the same results.

Not sure about anyone else but when I coach never like and never had my team deliberately bunt for an automatic out or tell my defense in basketball not to keep their hands up inside the lane unless either team is obviously completely outclassed which obviously the NFL Cowboys arn't.

Law of power: Crush your enemies completely. When they're down, you step on their throats and kick the snot out of them. That's why the onsides kick in the third quarter was a thing of beauty.

No. I thought it was respectful. The onside kick was brilliant as well. His playcalling all year has been one of the big reasons for the Saints success. Yes, the players execute...but he's been superb in that regard. He locked up the Coach of the Year in this game IMO.

+1

Coaches get upset when you run up the score, not when you take a knee in the last 3 minute of a blowout.

In the NFL, kneeling down should only be used as a tactic to run off the last 2:00 to clinch a close game.

In a blowout, why not just put in all the bench players and get them some game experience? I can't figure out - Brees was in the until the end, right? Made no sense.

It's boring to watch, condescending to the opposition. You're getting paid to play, so put the reserves in and let them hit each other. Practice the 2:00 drill, whatever.

Madden made a comment that led me to believe he didn't think the kneel down was the right thing to do either. I was just shocked myself. :D

Perhaps because you don't want any of your players (even the second-stringers) to suffer an injuries in a game that's already been decided?

The kneel-down with 3 minutes left was humiliating and insulting, basically just telling Tuna to concede and that the student has just kicked the master's ass.

hmm, well let me ask it this way. is kneeling down inside the 10 with 3 minutes left more or less insulting and humiliating than throwing yet another TD to mike f'n karney? :D

Name the last time you have seen a team take a knee with 3 minutes left in the game? This is the NFL not little league. It's suppose to be entertainment. Can't tell me the the last two minutes of both halves isn't noramlly the most entertaining.

Do you think that Parcells or Payton give a crap about the "entertainment" factor? They care about winning football games and keeping their players healthy. If the game is already decided, the coaches don't have any incentive to continue playing.

If you're so upset at the lack of "entertainment" in the NFL, perhaps you should watch pro wrestling instead.

You're wrong. You epitomize everyting that's wrong with football fans these days. You are the reason we have to put up with all the cross-promotion nonsense and pathetic announcers that real football fans constantly complain about. You don't care about football, you want to be "entertained".

It's not about entertaining people, it's about winning championships. At that point in the game, running 30 seconds off the clock is far more important than scoring more points or "entertaining" the novice fan at home.

Go watch "Desperate Housewives", go play Madden 2007, go beat off, whatever. Leave the football decisions to those who know what they're doing.

Remember the stink that Nick Sabin got into his rookie season when he made a comment about not caring if his team wins or loses. It's an unwritten rule in the NFL that you don't play for next season in the middle of the season and you keep your starters in as long as possible. Sorry if you don't know the NFL is entertainment. Don't want to bust your bubble on wrestling too but did you know it's is fixed? :D

What the hell are you talking about? :D THE SAINTS HAD ALREADY WON THE GAME!!!

No, pro wrestling is entertainment. The NFL is a sport.

It's because of people like you that the NHL implemented the stupid shootout at the end of overtime and that we're listening to a drugged-up Christian Slater during MNF.

That's exactly why you don't insult your opponent. To me that's bulletin board material for the Cowboys.

I'm not saying the Saints should have tried to score. What I am saying is there are lots of other play calls that would have produced the same results as taking a knee without insulting the other team. Inside 2 minute perhaps but 3 minutes was abit to soon to do that to a coach of Parcell's status.
