Rockerbraves
Besides Chicago which team in the NFC has the best shot of earning a bye in the playoffs considering the Saints are an underdog this weekend vs. Giants and of course they are the Saints? They arent "those Saints" anymore..Going to be an interesting game vs the Giants though..Giants are fighting for their lives..If the Saints lose and Dallas wins I would think Dallas would end up with the bye .. Ursa Majoris
I think it will be Dallas anyway, unless Philly turn them over this weekend.

Even though the Saints hold the tiebreaker would almost have to favor the Cowboys to get the bye since they are a favorite at home this week and will certainly be a huge favorite next weekend at home vs. Lions. While the Saints are a road underdog this weekend up in New York and will likely only be a moderate favorite over Carolina in their last game of the season in New Orleans. Does any other team have any shot at the bye aka Seattle, Eagles?

Do you know if the Saints hold all the tiebreakers if their end of the season record is identical to all/any of the teams still in contention? Cordo
Do you know if the Saints hold all the tiebreakers if their end of the season record is identical to all/any of the teams still in contention? For Phil or Sea to get the bye over the Saints, they must win out and the Saints must lose out. NO holds the tiebreaker over both teams -- head to head win vs the Eagles, and are assured of a better conference record than the Seahawks. i_am_the_swammi
Do you know if the Saints hold all the tiebreakers if their end of the season record is identical to all/any of the teams still in contention? Saints hold tiebreakers over Philly (via head-to-head win) and Seattle (better conf. record). So, the only way Philly and/or Seattle get a bye is if either team wins out and finishes 10-6, and the Saints lose their final two games finishing 9-7. Coincidentally, if both the Eagles and Hawks are tied for the bye, Philly gets the bye, based on better conference record. The Cowboys get the bye if they go 2-0, and the Saints go 1-1. Do you know if divisional record comes first in the tiebreaker? You would think head to head but for some reason I recall years back the Saints beat the Rams head to head but lost the tiebreaker due to the Rams having a better divisional record. Just curious?? bushwacked
They arent "those Saints" anymore.. They certainly didn't play very well last week...I think it's probably the Bears and New Orleans with the first round bye. The talent gap between the #1 seed and the #6 seed right now is fairly minimal. Picking a championship team from the NFC seems like a crap shoot right now. I don't think Chicago scares anybody right now and every playoff team going into the NFC has some glaring weaknesses.

Divisional record only comes into play if two teams FROM THE SAME DIVISION are tied. For instance, if the Eagles and Giants finsihed tied for a spot, the Eagles would advance, based on a better divsional record (they split their season series, which is always the 1st tiebreaker). However, if two teams from different divisions are tied, head-to-head is 1st, then conference record. Your recollection of the Rams/Saints scenario must be incorrect. But maybe it was actually 3 teams involved and perhaps the Saints beat the rams head up that year but didn't play the other team involved. If that were the case then divisonal records would need to be used instead of head to head and thus the Rams would have gotten the bye over the Saints despite losing to them head up.
