JaysGoingDown
Michael Turner is a restricted free agent. If he goes to the Giants, the Chargers get a 5th(?) round pick in compensation from the Giants. The Giants already went through their round picks when they first got Eli Manning. Therefore, I don't understand why they would want to go through this again, especially to get Turner. Isn't the Jets or Steelers interested in him? While it is true that Brandon Jacobs is not proven to handle a full load for a feature back, he does have the intangibles for that spot. Any light that could be shed on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks. I hope to answer yours. Randall
Tiki's leaving and Turner could be a great addition. It is just speculation. I haven't heard it from anyone legitimate yet, but I haven't heard any denials either. Edited December 20, 2006 by Randall

I would think it most likely that Turner would go to the Giants as I don't see Jacobs as an every-down back, nor even as the majority-down back. I don't think he does have the "intangibles" to be that guy. He will remain the goal line bulldozer, IMO. I hope I'm totally wrong about this, BTW, as I have him in two keeper leagues. I don't think he does have the "intangibles" to be that guy. I seem to be in the minority and don't understand why Jacobs couldn't be a bruising, 200+ carry back like Bettis or Jamal Lewis. Agreed that it'd be good for them to have a third-down back to compliment him, but is his cutting/vision really that bad?

I'll have to leave it to Giants homers to weigh in on this but from the little I've seen, he either can't or hasn't had the opportunity to show much in the way of moves, vision, etc. All he's really done is straight up the middle (or slightly left / right) bulldozer fashion. I've noticed lately that he's been stopped at the goal line a couple times, whereas he used to be unstoppable, pretty much. I wonder if that upright running stance and lack of cut has let defenses prepare better for him? Like I said, I'd be very happy to see him as a 15-20 carry guy, especially if he retains the goal line duties too. I hope this becomes a lot clearer before keepers are declared in 2007. MonkeyOne
Such a move would kill Turner's value.

This part is certainly true - I've been very surprised at how poor the Gints have been in short yardage the last couple weeks.
Chavez
Well, with Turner's size, that sort of eliminates any sort of need for Jacobs as a goal-line back, doesn't it?

Having been burned in the Rivers / Manning trade, I doubt the Giants have an appetite for trading with the Bolts.

kwolf68
While it is true that Brandon Jacobs is not proven to handle a full load for a feature back, he does have the intangibles for that spot. Why the questions about Jacobs and not about Turner? When has Turner proven he can handle a full load? I see both Turner and Jacobs as very nice prospects, but expect to see Turner with the Jets next year, at which point he becomes no lower than a 3rd round pick next year, possibly higher. kwolf68
Jacobs looks to me like a clear full-time option at RB...I see no way the G-Men don't let him take the reigns next year. They may draft a scat back type runner though as a change of pace, but Jacobs looks to me like a 25 carry guy. I like him...I also like Turner and would love to see him with the Jets, I think that team is going places.
T_bone65
I have Turner in a keeper league @10th round value and in a dynasty league as well. I really hope it does sign somewhere and play since he is just wasted behind LT2

I really hope it does sign somewhere and play since he is just wasted behind LT2 Hold on to this guy for all you can. I don't believe the Chargers will keep him. The key is will he go to some crap team (Oakland, Cleveland) or a team with a tremendous young coach that is making strides with a couple stud anchors on their Oline (NY Jets). The minute Turner signs with the Jets, I will head over to my 07 draft sheet and move him into position to where I can take him. That's where I want him to go and I could see myself using a high #2 to get him. Edited December 21, 2006 by kwolf68

OK. but there's no way a RB like Turner is gonna get pulled at the goalline. He and Jacobs do not fit together on the same team. Turner's a guy you bring in to pound it at the goalline. McBoog
Here is a blurb on the rumor. and here is another clip about it. If the Chargers give Turner a first round tender, they can keep him and pay him the money, OR take a first and a 3rd (I think) from the team that gets him. This would be amazing compensation for a third year player that was drafted 5B by the Bolts. Another thing that shows that AJ Smith knows how to identify and draft FOOTBALL PLAYERS. I am not sure this will happen. What is more likely is that the Chargers will sign and then trade him. Two high picks for an unproven every down back (he has not carried a full load yet) is too steep for most teams. IMHO I think he is a top 5 RB in the right system and with the right coaching! Speed, power, he would be a perfect fit for the Ravens or Steelers style of play. He would really fit nicely into the Texans come to think of it... Read, make one cut and roll downhill baby. Yeah, hadn't thought of it 'till just now, but the Texans sure could use Turner! Dang that would be fun to watch him in that Kubiac offense!
