MikesVikes
Oakland gives Shell one season to show what he's got. Childress has shown as much.
Ursa Majoris
Oakland gives Shell one season to show what he's got. Childress has shown as much. I like Childress. He's exactly the right coach in the right place at the right time.
DMD
But Shell is just starting to turn the team around. Now that they are at the lowest point possible, the only path is upwards now. I wonder what Tom Flores is doing now? Is there anyone from the 70's still alive they can bring back?
Todd1
Wish Oakland had grabbed Sean Payton last winter...
Cowboyz1
That's is pretty crappy. Al is getting old. He goes out of his way to bring back one of his guys, even goes so far as to apologize for kicking him in the nuts the first time just to reset and give him a walker to the pills again. That's just wrong. I hate the Raiders but giving a guy one year to make headway is not right, if you believed enough in him to bring him back for a second time. I thought the D was starting to play much better but the O was horrible. No QB, NO RB, NO WR's and a number one pick, revolving door at tackle. It's hard to improve both sides of the ball in one year, given todays game. He should have been given another year to right the ship. However, by the look on Shells face most of the year, he may have just had enough and realized he bit off more then he could choke on. Big Score 1
I think what a lot of folks don't realize, is that the Raiders are actually having candidates turn down the HC job. Saunders is a prime example. He took the OC job in Washington versus the HC job in Oakland. Until Al Davis moves on, the Raiders are going to have a very hard time attracting a quality HC. Cowboyz1
One more thing, even if this is true, do you report on it before the season is over? I mean can't they let the guy go out with some dignity and not have to stand on the sidelines as the nation looks on with a big "Canned Man Coaching" stamped on his forehead. I can just picture the locker room as Art walks in; ART "Alright boys give me your best effort today, whatdasay, lets finish out the season strong." PLAYER "Yeah, whatever fat boy, TENSION ON THE BOARD." I just think that's wrong. Edited December 23, 2006 by Cowboyz1

Excellent point. I wouldn't be surprised if this time they started going after some college coaches---somebody who would like to get their foot in the door of the NFL. That team needs a GM in the worst way.

They have gone after college coaches. They went after Fresno coach last year and he ran fast.
Ursa Majoris
Until Al Davis drops dead, the Raiders are going to be screwed. Fixed.
Big Score 1
Fixed. I was trying to be a tad more PC, but yeah, you're right.

AtomicCEO
It's time for John Madden to return to coaching. I think he'd take the Raiders to the Superbowl... again. Al Davis would be stupid not to offer him a billion dollars to bring that franchise back to it's former glory.
