Vikes release Marcus Robinson

The Vikings have released Marcus Robinson, arguably the best of their horrible stable of WRs. There apparently have been a lot of behinf teh scene problems between Robinson and the new coaches this season.

I really thought Troy Williamson would have a breakout year this year -- and then dumped him thinking Marcus was going to be the surprise star stepping forward ... and neither of these toads could do anything with the opportunities of a lifetime. :D Well, at least they keep Vick fans from crying that their star rb would be a hall of fame QB except he has nothing for WRs -- ATL's wr crew is certainly better than Minney's mice ...

After reading the Pioneer Press articles on this the past few days, Childress comes off looking like a control freak. Here is the first article where Robinson vents his frustration...but in a pretty PC way. With the pathetic receivers they have, I'd really like to know why Childress took a $#%& on Robinson.

ther wil be many going

I hope so. The receiving core is pathetic.

MRob is soft as a pillow and milks his little nagging "injuries". Childress called him out on it by saying something to the effect that he "couldnt answer the bell." Of course MR is now upset because he feels his manhood is being challenged, so he runs his mouth to the Pioneer Press. Dumb.

If you're gonna be a wuss and let little things keep you out of practice and games, expect to be called out for it. My impression of MR is that he is soft, lazy, and doesnt like to practice. He just wants to play on sundays. I think Childress had enough of that and called him on it. Then, Robinson tried to spin it as though he is fine and Childress is keeping him out for no good reason.

With as bad as the Vikes WRs were this year, do you really think Childress would keep out one of the only ones who can actually catch the ball for no good reason?????

It looks like Childress will be back and he's still calling the shots after a less than stellar year from him as well.

Kind of what Robinson said is sort of what I have been saying the whole time. There are no playmakers onb that offense. Its not the play calling or the plays. The damn players aren't making any so - so childress gets heat for it.

Robinsons interview with Jensen:

Q: Is the offense too conservative?

A: At times, we're too conservative. But the other dudes get paid to play, so it's not just the play calling.

It's a combination of the plays being called, and players not making plays. Like the Buffalo game, I talked to Brad (Johnson) about that (deep) route. I should have had it. Plays like that give you momentum.

Q: There has been a lot of criticism of his play calling. Is that a fair criticism?

A: I think he's done a good job with the play calling. We shoot ourselves in the foot a lot of times.

Q: Do you think Childress has done a good job implementing this offense?

A: I think he established a good offense and laid a good groundwork and foundation. As far as being a first year, you can see a style develop. You can see the personality. But as the years come, they will explore other things.

Robinsons interview with Jensen:

It doesn't matter about the players you have when you're at third and seven and the called play is a one yard dump-off. The Vikings had more third down completions that failed to make a first down this year than any other team in the league.

From my POV, I hope Childress continues his offense for the next decade but the Vikings fans criticisms of the play calling are, IMO, legitimate. The calls remind me of the Bear's gone but not forgotten John Shoop. :D

I'm sure the other 31 teams in the league are scrambling to clear enough salary cap space to sign this guy.

In the games he played, the Vikings were 6-4.

In the games he didn't play, the Vikings were 0-5.

Robinson was still their best receiver even though that really makes him the tallest midget. I think he'll pitch up on someone's roster in 2007.

From the Whispers thread:

We hear Brad Johnson doesn’t have any interest in staying in Minnesota beyond this season and that the Vikings will let him walk. Johnson has been put off by the fact that head coach Brad Childress never accepted or solicited any input from Johnson despite his 15 years of experience.

This is pretty much the same thing Robinson said. While I accept that coaches need to make the decisions, Childress apparently talks to no-one.

Maybe because none of the receivers can get open?? There is no speed and Williamson cannot catch. That leaves the one yard pass.

Well, the first part of what I thought would happen would, releasing MRob. Now I just hope my dynsaty pickup of Martin Nance (who has a similar build to MRob) steps up and takes over the badly needed #1 WR in Minn next year.

Always looking for that "deep" sleeper.

Who is Martin Nance? Never heard of him. Is he on the Vikings' practice squad or something? :D

And if he was any good, why wouldn't he be starting at this point?

Vikings: WR cut to give chance to others

As his players chose their words carefully Tuesday, Vikings coach Brad Childress said he released receiver Marcus Robinson to open up playing time for other receivers.

"You know what?" Childress said during his weekly appearance on Sirius satellite radio. "We're going to look at some other guys. I think, just physically and talent-wise, that's the whole point. We've got some other guys with fresher legs. It's really a skill and ability thing."

Robinson officially was put on waivers Tuesday, but the Vikings informed him Sunday of the impending move. The decision came a day after he acknowledged his frustration with his season in a published report, but Childress made no mention Tuesday of the role that interview might have played.

Without Robinson, the Vikings will have four veteran receivers -- Travis Taylor, Troy Williamson, Bethel Johnson and Billy McMullen -- on the roster for Sunday's season finale against St. Louis. Former practice squad receivers Jason Carter and Martin Nance could also see action.

My thinking is that with that team and absolutely NO WR stepping up at all, someone has too sooner or later, why not an undrafted rookie from the practice squad? I know it is a long shot, but there is always a deep sleeper every year, why not M.Nance next? No one really heard of Colston till someone mentioned him on this site!
