Down Goes Frazia

It's down to those two.... and the discussion has already begun around here as to who has the best chance to come to Qwest & win. :bash: As opposed to last year when the question was, "who's coming to Qwest to get their ass kicked." My how a season changes things....... the way the Hawks are playing :D either philly or dallas has a good chance of winning.

the other question for me is what day the networks & NFL decide to play this game. :D I've got serious family issues on Saturday @ may not be able to make the game if it's then. i'm hoping & praying that it's the 2nd. game on sunday.

The NFC is so screwed up, there is some debate here in Philly whether or not winning the division is even a good thing!

Win the division, and probably host the Giants (who know us very well) or Carolina (who can throw a defensive game plan at us as they have done in years past).

Go into the playoffs as a wild-card, and we get to play an 8-8 Seahawk team, which appear to be a shell of themselves, in the first round.

I gotta think that playing at home is the easier way to go, regardless of opponent. And as a bonus, should we get revenge on those Saints in the 2nd round, and the cowboys can manage a couple wins at Seattle and Chicago (which I think is not a stretch), and whattya know, the Eagles would host the NFC Championship game against Dallas!

I don't think any of the playoff bound NFC teams going to the superbowl would suprise me....maybe just the Giants who appear to playing even more uninspired than the Cowboys and Hawks. The Eagles are playing probably better than anyone and the Saints have been farily consistent too. The talent gap between the #1 and #6 seeded team is minimal regardless.

Didn't a wildcard Eagle team beat the Saints in one of their only home playoff games? Would think most teams would much prefer to play the Saints vs. the Bears regardless of how hot or cold either team is playing.

I love the way people are dismissing the Bears.

:D There's a reason the Bears are 3 games ahead of the rest of the Conference - they are better.

That, and the fact they play Detroit, Green Bay and Minnesota twice to pad their record.

But to make sure you read my post correctly, I said Dallas winning in Chicago wasn't a stretch...they'll definitely be the underdog, but I don't think anyone would be shocked if Dallas (or someone else) knowcked them off.

Not a knock on the Bears...just reality in the mediocre NFC.

They were better, but losing Tommy Harris did hurt. Can they use Mark Anderson on the interior line or is he just an outside player?

Their defense hasn't been as dominating lately and many people also doubt that Grossman will put 2 decent games together to get to the superbowl. When Chicago doesn't get big plays from special teams and defense they look rather ordinary. They are 3 games ahead of the rest of the Conference because the played really good early in the year and had only three games against winning teams on their schedule (2 if Seattle loses this week) all season.

I could see Chicago going one and done or advancing to the superbowl. As a Hawk fan, I'd much rather see Seattle going to Chicago rather than New Orleans.

OK, but all NFC teams play other NFC teams 12 times. The Norris is arguably the worst of the divisions, true, but there's enough crap in the NFC for other teams to pad their (three games worse) records too. Washington, Tampa, Arizona, etc. The NFC West is rubbish, yet who is poking a stick at Seattle for padding their record against AZ, SF and STL? Oh, wait - they haven't.

The Bears can't help their schedule, all they can do is beat whoever gets put in front of them. I dunno what it is about the Bears in particular but Grossman took a heck of a beating around the Huddle when he had a slump despite the Bears keeping on winning, while far worse efforts as measured over the season from a bunch of NFC QBs have gone almost unremarked, comparatively speaking.

Also, bear (excuse the pun) in mind that the Bears have shown they can beat you three ways, not just one, as Arizona, St Louis, NYG and others have discovered.

As a Saints fan it's hard to get too excited about this team because of all the bad history surrounding the Saints franchise, however at some point you begin to realize that in the past month New Orleans has convincing beat 3 potential NFC playoff teams on the road. (Atlanta, Dallas, NY Giants)

Not sure about that...as an Eagle fan, would I rather face Brees, McCallister, Bush, Colston and Horn in New Orleans in a loud dome, or Grossman, Jones, Benson and Mushy?

Not to take anything away from the Bears, but I think the Eagles could shut down a less-than-impressive Bears rushing attack, and allow Grossman to lose the game for them. But the Saints would present a plethera of match-up issues, which were evident the first time they played this year.

But first things first....lets win the division this week!

I think I heard on the radio yesterday that Grossman set a record this year by having 4 games with over a 100 QB rating and 4 games with less than a 40 QB rating. That epimtomizes inconsistency. People are criticizing Grossman, because the Bears have enough weapons on special teams and defense to be a legitimate champion. Grossman just has to manage a game for the Bears to be successful. He hasn't shown the ability to to not "F things up" on a consistent basis. Now the Bears chances lay largely on him playing consistent ball, 3 games in a row, in January/February.

Sorry in advance for hijacking this Seattle thread, Frazia, but:

No question the Bears defense is statistically tops in the NFL, but much of their domination came in the first half of the season. Of late, they have appeared more vulnerable, as the Lions and Bucs (of all teams) proved.

Additionally, it seems from an outsiders perspective that the early-season magic Grossman displayed has vanished. I think a lot of it had to do with the Bears surprising a lot of people by their play-calling. The Bears were never a team that went deep, but for the first 5-6 games, they caught a lot of teams off-balance. As defenses adjusted as the season wore on, the deep threat went by the wayside.

That being said, Chicago has the ability to pitch a shutout at any time, or win a game via special teams....and if the Bears can find the right mix of run and short-pass (a la West Coast) and put up 20 points, they'd be tough to beat.

Kudos for a great season....but other than winning the right to host a game, the regular season is meaningless...the playoffs are a different animal alltogether.

Seattle and Dallas seem very similar right now - neither team seems to want to win

I don't see Philadelphia losing vs. Oakland. So, I guess that means Dallas visits Seattle.

I don't know what the deal is with the Seahawks. Arguably with 3 different outcomes of just 3 different plays in their last 3 games, and we're talking about an 11-4 squad coming off a huge win over the Chargers and having a bye in the first round waiting for the Saints-Giants/Panthers winner.

Alas, reality says that it will be a struggle to not limp into the tournament with a 4 game losing streak and a home game against what would appear to be (on paper, maybe) a superior opponent.

And to address the other issue of the thread, Chicago is the only NFC team that would have a chance of making the playoffs in the AFC if they played there. They have a complete team regardless of what kind of player Grossman is.

The only NFC team I even remotely see competing with them is New Orleans just because of the offensive firepower, given a 1 game scenario. Philadelphia is peaking and I could see the Iggs stealing one win on the road, but not 2.

:rosecoloredglasseson:

We may only need one win on the road....we beat the Saints in New Orleans in a revenge game, and the Cowboys take care of the over-rated Bears....the NFC Championship would be in Philly against the Cowboys in Round 3.... :D

What other scenario would create this type of excitement league-wide? Seahawks @ Bears? :D

Uh, there would be nothing exciting about the 11th and 12th best teams in the NFL playing for the right to get killed in the Super Bowl. :D

If the Seahawks win their first home playoff game and head to Chicago, I see the inconsistent 'Hawks losing pretty badly here. Unless of course Grossman decides to throw the game away under the pressure - pressure I don't see him handling very well. The playoffs will be interesting this year, no doubt. :D

True dat and while I can see that the AFC is in general better than the NFC, the Superbowl is far from a foregone conclusion, IMO.

Any given Sunday and all that.

Exactly. Even last year, barring the Seahawks mistakes, the NFC team could have easily won the game. I'm pretty sure the intensity in the playoffs is impossible to match during the regular season.

As a hawks fan the last thing I wanted was to talk about the F'n bears. ::clap::tup: ..... but the way they're playing they're not gonna get a shot at them anyway. I agree it looks like Big D. will be heading here in two weeks.

I'm just PRAYING it's a sunday game. :D
