sacosud
Pittman and Wells Await Ruling From NCAA December 26, 2006 1:30 pm EST As reported yesterday in the Columbus Dispatch, running backs Antonio Pittman and Chris Wells await a decision on their eligibility for the Championship Game. The school and the NCAA will review their explanation about an event they attended in their hometown of Akron on Saturday night. Apparently, they showed up at a fundraiser spaghetti dinner put on by well-wishers intending to defray the cost of their families’ trips to the national championship game Jan. 8 in Glendale, Ariz. It also was meant to benefit the families of defensive end Lawrence Wilson and walk-on defensive back DeAngelo Haslam, who did not attend. When offensive coordinator Jim Bollman was informed by phone of the dinner by Wells’ mother, Paulette Wells, about midway through the event, he advised her to tell Pittman and Wells to leave. He also said the families should refuse the money raised because such fundraisers are not permitted by the NCAA. The fundraiser, which attracted about 100 to the Akron Buchtel High School cafeteria, was organized by Dawn Stigger-Ferguson, who has been involved with pee-wee football in the Akron area for 25 years. There was no money figure revealed, but reportedly Stigger-Ferguson said the funds raised now will go to a couple of pee-wee football organizations in the area. ##################################################################### Can anyone tell me how this kind of stuff is not covered by the coaching staff????? I mean come on already. I have no doubt Beanie and Pitt had no idea this would even be a issue since neither one would benifit from the funds and since it was caught in time by Bollman and funds are going to go to a local PEE-WEE football league I do not suspect there will be suspenion given to either player. Beanie and Pitt are found to have violated some rule it would cost OSU a National Championship....Quick throw a c-note on Florida before the spread drops. sacosud
A update for all those heart beating Buckeyes. I have done some reading and it looks like OSU Rb's are going to be fine for the National Championship. Beanie's mom may have saved the day!!!! The Bollman phone call and because the money is not going to benifit any of the families keeps this from being a violation. There is still no excuse for the players not knowing in my opinion. A mistake like this could have been huge and a huge disapointment for OSU. Troy would have been throwing on every down. I like Moe Wells as a scat back but if we had to depend on "predator" to carry the load...I don't like OSU chances in that situation. theeohiostate
I saw this reported about 3-5 days ago and there's nothing the NCAA can/will do except at maximum, give a slap of the wrist to OSU. Both players have stated they didn't know the function's purpose and the moment they did, they left and refused any aide. This crap happens all the time, but i'm happy these boys and their families said no , where so many in the past have said yes.
