McBoog
Given the fact that Julius Peppers was suspended for four games for violating the leagues substance abuse policy, should he have been voted as defensive rookie of the year? The fact that he was, does this lay a foundation for Merriman and others to not comply with the policy? There is so much "hate" going on right now with Merriman, but it seems hypocrytical. We've been through this before... or have we forgotten? This is not to excuse Merriman of his error this year. I think he should be excluded for consideration this year for DPY. But some of the banter on these boards of forever banning him from the league, etc. seems a little extreme considering the Peppers scenario! Remeber, Merriman was CLEAN the entire REGULAR season. He peed hot early in August and the very next and all tests after that have been clean (3 to 4 times per month). Now if he does it again... he should be banished! McBoog
Come to think of it, wasn't Sapp a stoner when he came into the league?
Sgt. Ryan
Peppers wasnt taking illegal steroids, Merriman most certainly was.
McBoog
Peppers wasnt taking illegal steroids, Merriman most certainly was. This seems hypoctricial to me. They both violated the policy and were treated exactly the same way. These "illegal steriods" you talk about are used for legitimate medical reasons. People are not killed by the 100s in local and international street wars for control of the illegal steriod trade. They are produced by legitimate companies and at times are stolen, obtained or used for illigitimate purposes. You seem to think these things turn Melvin into Superman overnight. Even if the injectibles are used, unless you work out like a madman, all they really make you get is fat. The biggest abusers of steroids are arguably the body builders. Ask these guys to run a 1/4 mile and you better have an ambulance nearby! The oral steroids are the least effective because they are so quickly broken down in the digestive tract. It is hard to get truley effective serum levels on oral steriods for performance enhancement. THAT is why the hardcore users and the people who need this stuff for major medicle reasons use the injectibles. There is NO evidence to indicate Merriman injected any of this stuff. Have you ever taken prednesone? One of the most commonly used and important steroidal medications we have. It saved my wife's life after a major asthmatic event! You gain a lot of weight on it if you are not careful, and sometimes even if you are! Just a "What if"? What if Merriman wins his case against the company he claims he bought the "tainted" supplements from. What do we say then? All I can think of is that he should have used what was already cleared by the NFL. In this caes, that is his ONLY error. Like I said sarge, we just really don't know the whole story. I think your perseption of him as a "thug" has clouded your ability to be fair.
Randall
Given the fact that Julius Peppers was suspended for four games for violating the leagues substance abuse policy, should he have been voted as defensive rookie of the year? When you get 4 games isn't it the 2nd violation? I take steroids in the form of a nasal spray. I've been given items with them by dentists as well. Chargerz you around? What kind of steroids did merriman take? Edited December 29, 2006 by Randall

Randall
Nandrolone Nandrolone Anabolics. That isn't good. I hope Merriman is telling the truth and they test him often. If he does take them again he'll be gone a year.

Then he tells ESPN the magazie he will be better than Junior Seau, that is just flat out ignorance. To top it off he is caught using steroids. He is a thug, and I wish he was out of the league, having to work for a living rather than cheating at the sport I love most.
