Certainly neither have a pro team or a D-I college program as indicated, but cmon, we suck faaaaar worse than our bretheren to the northwest. I maintain WE are the football wasteland of the nation! Pro Football? We rank #44? C'mon! The few pro football fans we have are mostly pathetic bandwagoners. Before Belichick, there were very feeeeew patriot fans in Vermont -- just Cowboy delusionals and few Giant fans. Heck, when NE met Chicago in the Superbowl back in the late 80s, most of our few "fans" were doing the Superbowl Shuffle to the Fridge. Now half of those embarrassments have jumped to being Patriot fans ... I suppose we have a geographical edge by being a 4 hour drive to Foxboro while Alaska is a 4 hour drive to the North Pole, but is anybody going to Foxboro? Nope. Monday lunch chatter about how the games went? Bah -- more likely to be discussing Dancing With The Stars!! How can we rank ahead of Wyoming in this one -- aren't they Bronco crazy in Wyoming?? Maybe we rank ahead of Idaho because we have electricity in most parts of the state, but beyond that, can anyone be a worse NFL market?? College Football? Our flagship university (okay, our only DI university) doesn't even OFFER football, though they do play frisbee football in intramurals there ... NTTAWWT ... Certainly, Middlebury and Norwich have teams and occassionally have nice seasons against piddling competition ... sooo, maybe that's enough to nudge us into the next to last slot ahead of Alaska ... I'll give you that. High school football? Sure, we rank #50 in that but how can there be someone lower? Girls softball and girls hockey EACH rank ahead of boys football in terms of community passion in Vermont!! My daughter legitimately throws the best fade of any QB in Vermont and she's never played the game outside of street football ... We haven't had a legitimate high school football player come out of Vermont since ... since ... since ... We've had athletes become pro baseball players and pro hockey players, but anything in football? Heck -- the vast majority of our kids couldn't even start for their neighbors in New Hampshire, as evidenced by our 13-28-2 record vs #48 (in HS) New Hampshire in our senior all star Maple Sugarbowl game ... And yet we rank (#50) ahead of Rhode Island (#51)??? Can RI reeeally be worse? Why don't we play THEM in the Shrine game rather than take our yearly whupping from NH? Soooooooooo -- Vermont's soooo sucky at football that we even suck at sucking and couldn't win the last spot in the poll???
