It's that time again - SMACK BOWL X

The Smack Bowl is a contest using players in the NFL playoffs that is offered free of charge for Huddle members that use the message board. This is, obviously, our tenth running of it.

Last year's winner by a landslide (90 points) was Capt Skinman in the biggest runaway in the history of the Smack Bowl. sunysteelfly76 came in second while Squeegiebo took home the much desired tube socks.

Billy Balata won Smackbowl VIII.

This year the prizes are:

1st place - An authentic, regulation NFL helmet from the team of your choice. Here is an example, you can select any NFL team.

2nd Place - $100 to use for contacting close family members because let's be serious, who else really cares about who came in second? Or buy beer.

3rd Place - The true prize of them all. Sound the trumpets - THE SOCKS!. A high-quality cotton 3 pack of the finest tube socks in all the land. First place may wear the crown but third keeps their feet warm in style.

4th Place - The official Teddy Bear of The Huddle as graciously donated by Keggerz. The winner will deal directly with Keggerz after the Smackbowl completes to select their new friend and let's be serious - some of you probably need a new friend.

5th Place - A copy (July 2007) of my upcoming book Fantasy Football: The Next Level in which I will not only autograph inside the cover, but will credit you personally as my inspiration and the secret source of all my football knowledge.

The contest

The Smack Bowl is only open for registered (AKA "paying") members of The Huddle. This Smackbowl is copyrighted by The Huddle for the private use of our audience. Any other use of this contest or of any pictures, descriptions, or accounts of the game without The Huddle's consent is prohibited.

I will match the winners against the membership list to ensure a match between email addresses so use your membership email address. Your email address (username) does not match with The Huddle log-in, you just get deleted. Not board log-in, huddle site log-in.

The concept is simple. You will select from each conference a QB, 3 RB's, 4 WR's, 1 TE, 1 PK, 1 DEF and 1 ST from the drop-down lists on the sign-up page. You will then ride those selected players all the way to Smackbowl glory (or humiliation, depending) by gaining all points scored by your selected players through the course of the NFL playoffs. My hint to you - pick players that score the most points. It often helps if they play more than one game in the playoffs.

Scoring Rules:

Players

0.1 for every yard rushed or received

0.05 for every yard passed

6 points for any TD scored (run, pass, catch, fumble recovery, KO return, whatever)

1 for every extra point

3 for every field goal

Defense

1 per sack

2 per turnover recovery

6 per TD

5 per safety

Special Teams

6 points per TD

I will post the results from each weekend usually on Monday after a few people complain. This contest is open to all members of The Huddle, it's employees and even Canadians as long as they are registered members of The Huddle. I will post the teams for you to verify on Friday after a few people complain.

Any duplicate entries by one person will have only the latest submission counted.

You may make changes to your rosters only by sending me an email at dorey@thehuddle.com with the title "SMACKBOWL CHANGES" or I will not change them. Please no onslaught of PM's (again).

Corrections are allowed up until the first kick-off on Saturday.

I will close down sign-ups by midnight CST on Friday unless I get too many people to sign up in which case it could be closed earlier. That has never happened, but you never know.

Last year was amusing when IND lost to PIT and suddenly half of all rosters were gone other than for the few PIT faithful.

Here is a writeup of the last 8 years of the NFL playoffs as to home and visitor wins.

Here are the rosters from Smack Bowl I in 1997.

That should be everything I guess.... feel like I am missing something.... oh yeah!

And closed

Are you ready for some smack bowl? :D
