Donutrun Jellies
the cowboys could use a new field goal holder But seriously - Vick did rank 20th in QB rating this year (only behind the likes of Brunell, Carr, Eli, and Kitna) ... yep, that fails to consider his 1000 rushing yards and his 45 sacks for 300 yards of loss ... He's the Allen Iverson of the NFL -- a great marketing product, the king of an individual stat, but not a player likely to carry his team to a championship due to his style of play being so ineffective within a team setting when faced with quality competition. Why wouldn't a new coach want THAT rather than move him to slash, give him his 120 carries a year, throw to him half as many times, and let him throw 80 passes year? He'd get 260 touches, make his magic, and not keep the team from having true chain-moving quarterback production.
Randall
They don't want Vick to limit potential head coaching applicants. A smart move.
untateve
Vick's days with Falcons numbered? Yes, Vick's days with the Falcons are numbered. As are his days on this planet. As are all of our days on this planet. From the moment of conception each of us begins the inexorable journey toward departure. Nothing can be done to prevent this departure. Rockerbraves
Vick stock is obviously down right now since the Falcons didn't make the playoffs, however if a team needs to sell season tickets, Vick is obviously one of the best entertainers in the NFL. Randall
I'm not convinced Vick can't be a good QB in the right system. I haven't given up yet. This year they started with the college option switched then switched again. Greg Knapp was not a good choice. I'll give him another chance although I won't draft him. Big Score 1
If the Falcon's organization is telling potential coaches that they aren't married to Vick, then obviously it could happen. It's unlikely, but clearly a possibility. And I have no idea what you are saying when you say the poster is "starting ****". This post is completely newsworthy and your response is not well thought out. The reason he's saying stop "starting ***" is because of the massive accelerated cap hit the Falcons would accure if Vick were traded, cut, or whatever. Plus the millions upon millions of dollars, Vick puts in Blanks wallett. The NFL is a business & Blank is most definitely a business man. Currently Vick's signing & roster bonuses have been amortized over the life of the contract & is the reason why his contract is no big deal to the Falcons cap & the Falcons have been able to be big spenders in FA the last couple of years with the Hartwell & Abraham signings. However, if traded or cut, those signing 7 roster bonus monies already paid but not yet counted, would come due in one of two ways. #1) Before June 1st, the cap hit would be $22.25 million #2) After June 1st, the cap hit would be $7.57 million with a net hit of $1.57 million and would actually create $6 million in cap space for Atlanta, but in 2008 Atlanta would take a $14.68 million cap hit. www.ajc.com While not entirely impossible (more in the link), it would certainly hurt Falcons cap even after June 1st. The NFL IS a business, but I guess I find it hard to believe that Falcons fans aren't starting to see that the Emperor, if not having no clothes at all, is not exactly nattily clad. Vick may put butts in the seats, but unless results follow promise and perception, they will drift away. I would guess that Blank searches long and hard for someone who not only "will" work with Vick, but is ENTHUSIASTIC about the opportunity to coach him; I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a strong tendency to go for some sort of offensive mastermind (personally, I think he should get some suggestions from Urban Meyer and Rich Rodriguez, but that's just me), and the clock will be ticking on Vick after that. If he shows no progress after another couple years, I would think Mike Vick is free to become someone else's headache. Most likely either Al Davis or Dan Snyder. broncosn05
Adding on to what BS1 said- Vick is immovable. He is the face of the franchise. Without him half of the Georgia Dome goes unattended. The Falcons didn’t lose last year because of Vick. Look at the hundreds of Vick threads throughout this year for a few suggestions.
Azazello1313
reality: this year's falcons are at best a 5-11 team with matt schaub at QB. Edited January 7, 2007 by Azazello1313

The thing of it is Chavez, while I know it's extremely fashionable here to bash Vick & place the blame for this season entirely on his shoulders, most Falcon fans look at the entire team & not just one player. Chavez
The thing of it is Chavez, while I know it's extremely fashionable here to bash Vick & place the blame for this season entirely on his shoulders, most Falcon fans look at the entire team & not just one player. There's certainly plenty of blame to go around for the Falcons - namely to Knapp and Mora for not figuring out how to get a passing game going, the injuries that decimated the defense, the shoddy WRs - but c'mon, Vick's passing numbers are the same as they were 6 years ago. He's not progressing. And at some point HE has to take responsibility for that if the coaches won't. You can talk about his subpar receivers all you'd like, and that's fair, but the Falcons didn't finish first in drops, and other teams with significant amounts of drops STILL had comp %s 5 or more points higher. I'm not asking him to throw the ball like Marino, I'm just saying a consistently average level of performance is long overdue.
