vansmack32
One could argue that both the Raiders and the Lions (esp the Raiders) could use a franchise QB. Anyone have a take on how to rank these guys and why? Seems like we could draw some comparisons to last year, when we were looking at Young, Leinart and Cutler. This year, Quinn is certainly the name brand, with the blueblood background (ND, Weiss). Russell seems to be the athletic freak with virtually unlimited upside, but probably less polished. Brohm looks to be simply rock solid. I've got the first two picks in my dynasty league rookie draft, and I'll probably take one of these QB's and the best PP (probably Calvin Johnson) on the board. Sgt. Ryan
you have to look at the teams personel. The raiders want a vertical passing game, to best use Moss, so Russell makes the most sense #1. the Lions cant take a chance on another flop at the position, so Quinn seems to be a better choice for them. Brohm Im not sure is ready for the NFL, but if he comes out will be a 1st rounder no doubt. I like the BYU kid. I think he could be the best of the bunch. BeeR
One more time, say it with me - RAIDERS WILL NOT DRAFT A QB WITH THEIR #1 PICK. Amazing how many people don't get this. DET IMO likely will not either after the Harrington flop, but they do need a QB and IMO it will be tough for either team to trade down as most will consider the asking price too high (even if it's "reasonable"). The thing is most of the teams after them aren't in the market for a QB either, or have more pressing needs. TB, CLE, BUF look like most likely teams to try and trade up for one of them, but they could sit back and likely sit back and let one of them fall in their lap. I think OAK drafting C Johnson doesn't make sense either, regardless of what happens w/Moss. But I also don't think they're smart enough to grab Joe Thomas, so they might... godtomsatan
These QBs aren't last year's QBs.
Vet
Quinn will be the next Rick Mirer, a flop. Russell will be the next Byron Leftwich, solid. Brohm will be the next Ben Rothlisberger, solid.
Bronco Billy
If you're going to talk next year's top QBs, don't let Stanton out of the mix. Just because he was saddled with a real bad team this past year doesn't take away from what appears to be a potentially very good pro QB who can make all the throws. wildcat2334
Tough tough call - No clue who Oak takes, but I don't think the vertical passing game is an issue- Shell gone, Moss may be gone too- doesn't play a role in the QB they may pick I don't think. Russell- biggest upside obviously, but the least ready of the 3 and the biggest gamble Brohm - stud, I think is easily the most ready of the 3, and will have a good career- Quinn- safe pick, although ND and great NFL QB do not mix, cept Joe of course. kpholmes
If Russell declares (his mother announced today he hasn't and ESPN is a bunch of liars) I think he is the hands down pick for Oakland. He has a cannon for an arm (which Al Davis loves) and he can move like no other in the pocket. (something Walter and Brooks lack) If he declares, he is the franchise QB Oakland has been looking for. What crazy Al decides to do though... is another story.
PantherDave
Russell to Raiders..makes perfect sense, as the kid is so big he could block for himself why he's looking downfeild, because the OL sure as hell is not.

darin3
Russell to the Raiders - Moss or no Moss - makes perfect sense. But then again, the words "makes perfect sense" and "the Raiders" rarely share the same sentence. So... we'll see.

CD6405
1. JeMarcus Russell <---Huge Gap---> 2. Brady Quinn 3. Kevin Kolb 4. Troy Smith 5. Brian Brohm Jared Zabransky at QB will be the steal of the draft because of his freakish speed, and throws a great pass. Only problem is he needs to work on his decision making. CD6405
ranking Troy Smith ahead of Brian Brohm???, hell naw. I've watched all the QBs, and while Troy Smith is not the prototypical size QB, I say he's better than Brohm. He may not get drafted ahead of him, but he's better, IMO. Todd1
+1...they need a cornerstone upon which they can build their franchise. Would that be a cornerstone like Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Culpepper, McNown, Carr, Harrington, Losman, Leftwich, Boller, Grossman, Ramsey, Vick, Couch, Pennington, McNabb or either Manning who have all to yet win a Super Bowl? Most of those guys are out of the league or have their jobs in question already! Taking a QB high, making him start on a terrible team is a recipe for disaster. See Cleveland, Detroit, Houston, et al. Take Joe Thomas and make that line better or take Calvin Johnson to pair with Curry, since Porter and Moss are both likely to go. theeohiostate
ranking Troy Smith ahead of Brian Brohm???, hell naw. The ony thing holding Smith back is his height. Once the scouts see him in person, get a since for his accuracy, leadership and arm strength he'll be moved up in the draft, imo. I'm thinking 2nd round to Cleveland. Most view him as an option type QB, which is very misleading. Chicago would also be a great fit for Smith. They'll have to make a move in the 1st to get him, as he'll be long gone by the time they pick in the 2nd.
PantherDave
THey have to of course "get drafted" which they will, but I think the consensus would be the old cliche of "Brohm translates better into an NFL QB" type of dealio.
piratesownninjas
Detroit has already said they're not looking at QB,WR, or RB... They'll get Thomas out of Wisconsin, or a D Lineman.
