detlef
Back when Florida jumped Michigan in the polls, plenty went on and on about how we'd just been robbed of a NC game showcasing the two best teams in college football. Some of us who argued that given the fact that there are simply not enough games between top teams for different conferences you simply could not arbitrarily decide that OSU and Mich were 1 and 2 and thus should play again at the expense of giving anyone else a shot. That the only thing we did know was OSU beat Mich. We had no idea how good either were relative to the other top teams in the country. Neither had beaten anyone all that great out of conference. Didn't matter, you all knew they were the best. We were just rationalizing some anti Big 10 bias. Maybe we just wanted what was right. When Michigan got handled by USC, some still blew it off saying that their hearts weren't in it once they got passed over for what should have been theirs. Maybe so, but that doesn't say much about their character if that's the case. OK, now OSU. What's their excuse? Could it possibly be, through some insane twist, that letting two teams flurish in a vaccum and then anointing them the two best was not the way to go? Todd1
Not quite a vaccum, since the #3 team in the Big 10 beat the #2 team in the SEC. I don't know what the problem was, other than pretty terrible play calling and not running the ball enough. Tressel beat the best in Miami a few years ago for a national championship, so I don't know why he wasn't up to it this time. His defense didn't look very good though. GWPFFL BrianW
I want to say that though I wrongly felt that OSU and Michigan were the 2 best, that I felt Florida deserved the shot over Michigan, and both USC and Ohio State proved me wrong. I am certainly not afraid to say that.

detlef
SEC peeps = pure class. Hey high road guy. As you can see in this thread I started a month ago, the haters were out in full force. I was not arguing from a SEC homer stance, I was arguing from a scientific and academic stance. Didn't matter, OSU and Mich, OSU and Mich, OSU and Mich. Anyone who couldn't take the insignificant amount of data and realize that these two and nobody else should play in Glendale was obviously crazy or stupid. I tried to play nice... Now all of a sudden, it's the big bad SEC homers who wont shut up. Convenient time to play that card. Props to Brian for manning up.

For the last time, Arkansas was the 4th highest SEC in the rankings going into the bowls. Florida and LSU were the class of the SEC, Auburn was third. LSU and Florida proved it where it counted, on the field.

No team had really unequivocally distinguished itself as a clear-cut #2, so argument was bound to ensue. Yours was probably as well based as one any smart Michigan or USC fan could've come up with. Or even Boise State - no, they didn't beat anybody, but they DID beat everyone they had to. Anyway, Florida not only proved they deserved a shot, they won the national title. I'm certainly happy for one UF fan in particular, but numerous other SEC fans are leaving me a bit cold.

I invite you to put alot of money on those Gators if your really that confident. I wish you luck. I'm not saying Florida can't win the game they are in the game for a reason unlike the Aggies and the Tigers. Sgt. Ryan
What I learned is Boise St is the only undefeated team in the country, and the true National Champion, winning the best bowl game on this very field in Glendalle. Congrats Bronco's on the title. I also learned that a playoff wouldnt have allowed such a layoff, that has happened in several of these NC games, and didnt pit the best 2 teams in the end, as it is suppose to do. If the BCS only job is really to pit #1 vs #2, then lets play it down from say 10, to this title game, and give it a 2 week break like the SB so each team can get somewhat healthy for the game. Frankly, I was hoping USC wouldn't have lost to UCLA. They were the only team to prove themselves out of conference and were, IMO, hands down the most deserving until their second loss. As I prefaced in the post I linked to, I also think a playoff is the only way. I just thought that, given the system, the burden of proof was on Michigan to prove that they were without question more deserving than anyone else because they were saying they deserved two shots more than anyone else deserved one. Because of that, those drunk on the OSU-Mich koolaid, screamed and yelled and kicked their feet. Forgive me for taking some satisfaction now that it sort of blew up in their faces. Todd1
UW should be pretty good next year too, they'll have an experienced Sr QB again, the entire receiving corp returns and 2 of the best RB in the nation-- returning Soph PJ Hill and incoming Freshman John Clay, who looks like the second coming of Adrian Peterson. If Henne and Hart return, UW and UM should be fighting for #1. Ohio St should drop off a few spots. I was born in Georgia, but Savannah, so not a big UGA or Ga Tech fan, but kinda like to see them do well.

So that by itself has me rooting for the Badgers. When I asked him at the beginning of the season if they were going to compete for the Big 10 championship he didn't seem too confident. I called him later in the season to give him a hard time telling him I lost a fortune betting against his team based off of what he had told me. Needless to say it was a fantastic season for the Wisconsin football program. Edited January 9, 2007 by Rockerbraves
