Gunther
That's what I'm curious about. The NFL doesn't have official tackle sacks anywhere online.... I totally don't want to turn this into a Randy Gradishar bashing thread, so Bronco fans don't insinuate that I'm doing such a thing. But 286 tackles in one season? I honest to goodness find that extremely difficult to accept that as an accurate figure. They don't have the same stats available for his teammate Tom Jackson. I can't find any tackles data for Jack Lambert or Lawrence Taylor (the best before and after Gradishar). I'm not even sure the NFL began keeping tackles data prior to 2002 or so..... I'll look into this further, but file me under skeptical.

And from what I've gathered those numbers have always been a little generous??????
nogohawk
These would be my choices: Ray Guy - Punter - 1973-1986 Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders Bruce Matthews - Guard, Tackle, Center - 1983-2001 Houston Oilers/Tennessee Oilers/Titans Art Monk - Wide Receiver - 1980-1993 Washington Redskins, 1994 New York Jets, 1995 Philadelphia Eagles Derrick Thomas - Linebacker - 1989-1999 Kansas City Chiefs Thurman Thomas - Running Back - 1988-1999 Buffalo Bills, 2000 Miami Dolphins Since I can only pick 6 and I forgot about Tagliabue (definitely in), I edited my picks above. rbmcdonald
Here are the 25 semifinalists to refresh your memory: Terrell Davis - RB - ...... There is a separate list for old-timers, players that ended their career more than 25 years ago, isn't there? I like to look at that list, because I hope that someday, they will come to their senses about Tommy Nobis.

muck
Guys who should get in this year: Ray Guy Art Monk Paul Tagliabue (coaches, etc. should have to wait 5yrs, but don't ... so, he gets in on the first ballot) Derrick Thomas For the final two spots, I can't decide between: Richard Dent Russ Grimm Michael Irvin Bruce Matthews Thurman Thomas ...but, I think that Dent, Matthews and Thomas are prolly higher in the vote tallys than Grimm or Irvin... Official defensive stats? For something like tackles, it's been very recently. Sacks and interceptions, a lot longer. The only data I can find on tackles are unofficial and date back to 1993. League leader that season was a safety, Eugene Robinson of Seattle with 163. Since that is barely different than the leader for Zach Thomas in 2006 (165 tackles), I still find it hard to believe that the game changed that much in the previous 15 years to where an LB in a 3-4 scheme got 286 tackles. Unless, we're adding pre-season and post-season in the mix?
