The Next Generation
"The San Diego Union-Tribune reports Patriots safety Rodney Harrison has a slightly torn ACL and will be lost for the postseason. Harrison was believed to have only had a sprained MCL before this news, which hasn't been reported by any Boston-area newspapers. He was already ruled out for the Divisional Round game at San Diego. James Sanders and Chad Scott will continue to see more time at safety" --RotoNews

TheGrunt
That's really too bad for the Patriots, Harrison got hurt for all of last year as well. While it's a hugh defensive loss, the Patriots have managed well in the past and I think they will continue to do the same this weekend. Whether or not they win the game, however, that is still to be decided.

charty
WOW I did not realize that the San Diego Tribune are more privalledged than the rest of the nations media, to be the only media outlet to get the story on Rodney Harrison...... I find this remarkable and would like to nominate the beat writer for the Nobel Prize!!! Unfortunately it is a bunch of crap and not true..... If the Boston Media does not have the inside scoop on the severity of Harrisons knee injury, so how the ....is a writer for the San Diego Tribune getting the facts???? I will admit Harrison has been ruled out for the game with San Diego and nothing further......in the event the Pats beat the Chargers I will make a statement the Harrison will be back for the Super Bowl!!! assuming they beat Balt or Indy next!!! The one thing I read in one of the Boston papers was that Harrison was back home in Atlanta. The fact that he's not with the team at all, and is at home, is a sign. Czarina
Harrison's value to the Pats goes far beyond what he does on the field. He's the guy who pushes the others to practice harder and longer, etc. He's a real force in the clubhouse, especially for the young guys. The defense is invariably less coordinated in its play when he's not around.

You may be right, but it looks like they'd have to make the SB for him to return: FOXBORO - If the Patriots [team stats] beat the Chargers on Sunday and advance to the AFC Championship Game, Rodney Harrison [stats] may be coming back after all. A story in yesterday’s San Diego Union-Tribune indicated that Harrison’s knee injury - suffered on Dec. 31 in Tennessee - was a partial tear to his right anterior cruciate ligament, which would force him to miss the rest of the playoffs. Later in the day, the 13th-year veteran’s agent, Steve Feldman, called the report inaccurate. “I’m not a doctor,” said Feldman. “But I do know that the report is untrue. There’s no tear. He’s rehabbing daily to get back.” Feldman confirmed that Harrison’s knee injury was a mid-level sprain to the medial collateral ligament, as reported in the Herald on Jan. 1. That diagnosis leaves the door open for a return that would likely only come if the Pats make it to Super Bowl XLI on Feb. 4. The agent added that in the immediate aftermath of the injury (Harrison’s third serious one in 15 months), the safety was stunned, but bounced back quickly and got to work. “I think immediately after the injury, he was down a bit, but within a few hours he got back the perspective that is his trademark,” said Feldman. “He’s working to rehab it.” Asked about the report of a partially torn ACL yesterday, coach Bill Belichick swiftly deflected the question by saying, “I think we’ve given out all the injury information we’re giving out this week.” Harrison has been ruled out for Sunday’s game. Earlier yesterday, defensive lineman Mike Wright responded to the Union-Tribune report with skepticism and indicated that he hardly believed Harrison was done for the year. The fact that the Patriots haven’t placed Harrison on injured reserve (thus freeing up a roster spot) seems to reinforce that sentiment. “I wouldn’t count him out at all yet,” Wright said. “I don’t know his situation, but I wouldn’t count him out, knowing him.” Link
HowboutthemCowboys
the pot calling the kettle black?? John Tomase, of the Boston Herald, reports the New England Patriots felt the injury suffered to SS Rodney Harrison's (leg) right leg in Week 17 was intentional. After Tennessee Titans WR Bobby Wade executed a low, second-quarter block that took out Harrison's legs, Patriots players said they saw Titans head coach Jeff Fisher wink and smile toward the field in approval. Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi then rushed towards the Titans' sideline before being restrained. "It was a dirty play," Harrison said. "He wasn't just trying to block me. He dove at my knees intentionally. He was trying to hurt me. The whole play was dirty."

Chargerz
This is the first time I can remember the SD Union-Tribune printing an injury update on another team's player and having its authenticity questioned. The UT better take a closer look at its sources if this one turns out to be wrong!

Czarina
The Pats may feel that it was an intentional hit but even as a Pats Homer I call that a legal hit.....Now whether or not it was justified or not is another issue......The hit to Harrison was legal but non the less when you look another man in the eyes and then dive at his knees you can be labled a Rosie O'Donnell!!! Rodney saw it coming the whole time and was not expecting the low dive .....unfortunately Roddney you gotta be prepared for everything tough break but leagal hit!!!! Now the Spear on Brady is another story!!!! That game was ugly, start to finish. As an example, it got so bad that even Troy Brown ended up with a personal foul. There was a great deal of bad blood created in that game. Belichick was more upset with the play on Harrison than he was the spear on Brady, IIRC. Bill Swerski
Belichick was more upset with the play on Harrison than he was the spear on Brady, IIRC. That's somewhat suriprising, given that the Pats would be absolutely hosed this weekend with Old Man Vinny taking snaps.
