Hat Trick
Chiefs and Gonzalez agree on 5-year contract extension By ADAM TEICHER The Kansas City Star The Chiefs and Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez have agreed on terms of a five-year contract extension. Financial details were immediately unavailable. Gonzalez had two seasons remaining on what was originally a seven-year contract he signed in 2002. But Gonzalez was eligible to void the last two seasons of that contract, a move that could have made him a free agent. The Chiefs threatened to retain Gonzalez by making him their franchise player. Gonzalez led the Chiefs this season with 73 receptions. Next month he will make his eighth straight appearance in the Pro Bowl. I hate to say i told you so, but I told you so

Bill Swerski
That's great news. I love it when great players stay with one team throughout all (or most) of their careers.

I wonder if the contract is front loaded as I dunno if Gonzo is going to last 5 more years. In fact, I'd bet he won't.

He's only 30, but I'd doubt it as well.

muck
I'm going from memory off of something I heard on the radio a couple of hours ago ... 17.25 million is guaranteed 31 million total potential value 5 years Front end loaded ... but no discussion on how long the contract "really" is for ... Ursa Majoris
Might be worth me hanging on to TG as my third keeper in one of my leagues.....
Skilly
Good for the Chiefs. Maybe they looked at what happened when Denver let Shannon Sharpe go to the Ravens and help them win a Super Bowl, and decided it was better to keep their best players on THEIR roster. cdrudge
Might be worth me hanging on to TG as my third keeper in one of my leagues..... Do you really think so? I realize that Green was injured for a good portion of the year, but after coming back he had 1 good game. If things don't change, with Larry Johnson on the team I think it will be a run first, run second, and maybe possibly toss a pass every now and then. At least that's my view as an outsider. Still thinking about it and will be till August. TE mandatory league, of course, and usually I like to fill the TE slot early because there are so few studs and pick up WRs later. You make a very good point about Green though.
