..it takes another FA off the market. It would appear via the rumor mill that many of the others will be "franchised". I firmly believe now that there will be little turn over this year FA wise, which means many teams should have more money to spend in 08. So, many teams or the entire NFL wil be much the same in 07 as 06 with the Draft being perhaps more important than years past. The landscape will of course be different(hey, Coach Fox....can we actually start the best players at their position next season :D ) with last years rookies stepping more into the forefront and some HC changes around the league. What is going to be intersting is who is released and lands with another team and makes an impact. Discuss??

This will be the first UFA/RFA class with the new cap numbers, right? So there might be some big contracts for guys who don't get franchised. Whereas the franchised guys will be extra PO'd that they're not able to cash in on the fatter market. Not to mention "under market value" veteran types, and so there might be a number of holdouts.

The draft might be important in terms of filling holes, but I don't think the talent level is there across the board as there was last season.

Looking over the free agent list...it's pretty scant in terms of what is available via that route. Matt Schaub and Michael Turner are probably the biggest names in terms of fantasy impact.

And regarding franchising players, I can't imagine too many teams exercising that option due to who is a UFA this off-season....

Arizona: Leonard Davis?

Baltimore: Adalius Thomas?

Buffalo: Nate Clements?

Indianapolis: Dwight Freeney?

Tennessee: Drew Bennett?

...and a few of those guys are borderline franchise quality guys anyway.

Yes, I just think it means that teams are going to be re-signing their own guys, especially the guys that are in their first 4-6 years and are still young. The franchised guys might be pissed, but I expect the market price to increase for pretty much everyone across the board, so it may not be that dramatic.

Who knows. Teams might even become fiscally responsible and decide NOT to spend all their cap room.

:D
