MrTed46
Without a doubt. IMO
Grits and Shins
Depends. Would Marty still be the coach?

Bill Swerski
They would've had a better chance, given that Rivers did a pretty mediocre job of exploiting NE's vulnerable secondary.
Caveman_Nick
The secondary that gave up 10 pass TDs all season?
Czarina
So, I typed in a response that I agreed with Swerski..and how scary that is..and what happens but my power went out for a minute and the post was lost. I think Brees' experience would have helped the whole team, leadership and clutch-wise.
Bill Swerski
The secondary that gave up 10 pass TDs all season? I'm not saying that they suck or anything, but they're certainly not an elite secondary, especially with Harrison gone for the season. They can be picked apart with the right offense. Also keep in mind that NE's Front 7 (who are VERY good) are partially responsible for keeping those TD numbers down.
Bronco Billy
SD would have won if its DBs had done a better job. They had much more negative impact on the game than the difference between Rivers & Brees. One dropped INT that was a pop-up with no one around, one INT that was stripped on the return, and an incredibly stupid penalty on a head butt cost SD the game. Whiskey Pimp
The game's MVP had to be Matt Light. Merriman was shut down almost the whole game.

ljbrun
Sure, Brees might have given them a better chance, but the receivers still need to catch the ball. The game's MVP had to be Matt Light. Merriman was shut down almost the whole game. Light had a great game. Here's a (maybe dumb) question. This was the 1st game I've watched with Merrman. Is it possible he's just not as good as his numbers suggest?

mitpdub
Brees didn't have anything to do with Parker dropping easy catches and muffing punts. SD would have won if they had kept Caldwell and dropped Parker....

Chargerz
Brees didn't have anything to do with Parker dropping easy catches and muffing punts. SD would have won if they had kept Caldwell and dropped Parker.... That's ironic since Caldwell was let go last year in large part because he couldn't hold on to the ball. Yesterday it was Parker that couldn't hold on to the ball. Go figure.

Sgt. Ryan
Not unless Brees was playing WR. Rivers threw some great balls, and the WR simply dropped them.
Chargerz
Well that's just pointing back to prep and coaching..... The problem with that is the fact that until yesterday Parker was one of the most sure-handed players in the NFL. Last year he had NO DROPS. Yesterday he couldn't hang on to anything. That's not Marty's fault.
rebdog
the game was what it was. players made mistakes or didn't make plays for SD. Rivers made the ProBowl. and yesterday he put the ball in spots to allow his receivers to make plays. ....and for the most part they didn't. let's not forget that Rivers only got drafted because Brees didn't do jacksh#t for three years in SD and they were forced to draft a QB. with a game like that its impossible to pin anything on one guy. there were numerous times that anyone could have made all the difference. it was undoubtedly a team loss in every sense. skylive5
Haven't seen this asked yet. What do you think? "Would SD have won if they had kept Brees?" Has to be the dumbest question I have seen here in at least 2 hours. Who's to know if they would have won as many games as they did had they had Brees? Who's to know if they would have even made the PO's if they had kept Brees? Who's to know? Off the wall wild speculation that has nothing to do with anything I would think. Wonder if SD would be as good as they are if they hadn't drafted Tomlinson. There... that is an apropos question. SD would have won if they hadn't kept opening windows of opportunity. Had nothing to do with who the QB was. "Would SD have won if they had kept Brees?" .... Sheeeesh....gimmie a break.
Chargerz
As much as I hate to say it (the NE players' post-game celebration on the field was WAY over the top), New England deserves props for winning. They played well in a hostile environment and came away victorious.
nhoops
Not unless Brees was playing WR. Rivers threw some great balls, and the WR simply dropped them. Agree!.......Wait a minute... I was very impressed with Rivers yesterday. But that's the way the Pats usually play, they bend but don't break.
