Why is it...?

That the Patriots never get any respect? I'm a Colts homer, and I respect their so called "dynasty run", but why is it that only Patriots fans and loyalists will give them credit? I really dislike the Patriots, but only cause again I'm a Colts homer. Everywhere I look, no one gives them credit. They're not a bad franchise, although now they're being labelled Classless! :D

I'm just curious. Other than Patriots fans, no one gives them any credit. I live in the Phoenix area, and I've been listening to this local talk radio show for the past 2 hours, and everytime someone calls in with a comment or question about the AFC championship, these 2 hosts of this show are just shooting down the Pats. I've been reading a lot on the net as well about how all these "analysts" believe that this is Indy's time to exercise their postseason demons aginst New England. I would love to see it, but I think the Pats deserve a little credit for getting where they got. Although I still hope that they get throttled this Sunday!! :D

I'm a Packer fan #1 and a Raider fan #1a. Despite the Tuck Rule, I still like the Patriots. I think they are built the way to win in the NFL- good running game, good coaching, great defense and a mid-round QB given some time to develop without the pressure of being a 1st rounder. I dislike the Colts for the same reasons, plus Irsay is an arse (so is Modell).

I like Brady, I think he's classy, smart and this generation's Joe Montana.

We have a national case of Attention Deficit Disorder, meaning we like to see something 'new' alll the time and don't want to see the Pats win again.

You certainly haven't been around here long. I think plenty of people around here give the Pats credit. I know I do. The dislike mostly comes from envy, which most people on here would probably admit.

This is actually an interesting topic considering the Patriots probably didn't get much respect during their three Super Bowl runs over a four year period of time. The Patriots have big names on their roster, but seem to change on a yearly basis, except usually for the worse in terms of keeping their 'big-name players'.

I don't understand it, and it appears most others are just as confused as I am how the Patriots are always so freaking good. It doesn't make sense. But then again, looking at how the team operates, this makes the most sense when looking at how certain NFL teams keep winning. The Patriots roster is full of players that don't care about individual stats, and they don't care about how good they look on paper... all they care about and want to do is win games.

And that's all they do. :D:bash:

I'm not sure how willing I am to admit this, mainly because I still think that Joe Montana is the greatest QB ever, and the most 'cool' under extreme pressure, but if there is a quarterback that compares to him, it's Tom Brady ( ). It sickens me to even consider this possibility, but it's true. Montana won his first Super Bowl without a big-name WR on the Niners roster. Jerry Rice didn't come into the picture until later down the road. And it's obvious the DUO of Montana-Rice; Young-Rice only made things more frustrating for opponents, but Tom Brady is doing it again this year without Branch, or any other known WR on his team.

Tom Brady is a future HoF quarterback, and his understanding for how the game is played is well above the average-good QB of today's NFL. Just think how stupidly amazing the Patriots would be if they did have a Jerry Rice type of talent for a wide receiver. I don't even want to think about, and I'm glad they don't have that sort of talent at WR.

I hate the Patriots because their time has come, now step aside and watch Peyton Manning dominate in the Super Bowl! ...Unless of course, Mr. Brady, you want to win one more... then feel free to do what you do best and win the freaking game. :D

BS

I think they get a ton of respect. I hear this same old crap every year. Its all Belichik propoganda to try to convince his players that they once again have to prove themselves to the world.

Pffffffffffffft. :D

Please. I'm not buying it.

+1 They play the refs, the NFL, their own players and the media saying the same thing. "You don't respect us so give us the calls."

"And let us manipulate league rules and get away with it"

Here is an interesting example, the Patriots would not have given Tony Gonzalez the deal the Chiefs gave him. If he was on the Pats, he'd be hitting free agency come March.

From Foxsports

News: Tony Gonzalez's five-year contract includes $17.75 million guaranteed.

Impact: It's a record for NFL tight ends by a wide margin. The extension Antonio Gates signed in 2005 included roughly $10 million guaranteed; Jason Witten's included $12 million. Gonzo will also average $6.25 million-per-season in base pay and collect $18.75 million over the first three years. This contract could be a problem for the Chiefs by 2008. (Fri. Jan 12, 2007)

Quotes from Carl Peterson from the KC Star......

"I’m optimistic he can play at least three more at the level he’s playing." Hello, it's a 5 yr deal.

"I think he deserved this contract," said Peterson. "Was it more than I wanted to pay? Sure. It always is. But he is, in my opinion, the best tight end in pro football. This allows him to be compensated as he deserves. There have been some rookies who came in and got bigger signing bonuses, but put it all together, Tony's been the highest-paid tight end in the NFL for several years, and this makes sure he will remain so."

The Patriots have positions that they are willing to pay a premium for (QB - Brady, DL - Seymour). Then, for the rest of the team, they'd rather have 30 guys making an average of $1.5M per year, and rely on each and every one of those guys, as opposed to having 5 guys make an average of $5M ($25M combined) and hope the rest of the 25 guys making an average of $800K per year don't kill you.
