A co worker of mine is selling squares for the private Catholic school his daughters attend at $20.00 a whack. They keep half and award the other half. The coaches for the girls varsity softball team in the public side are doing the same.I am going to buy a $20 square.I have never seen Superbowl squares used as fund raisers in this capacity.Does anyone think they are going too far with this?

Being that it's a catholic school yes it does. I always thought gambling was not accepted in the bible. Although i could be wrong after all most catholic churches do have bingo which is gambling.

I don't see anything wrong with it. As far as gambling being in the Bible, I don't know, unless there were actually eleven commandments.

11. Thou shalt not Gamble??? :D

I don't like it ...I went through in catholic grammar school with bingo and casino night ...which was held in our audotorium on many a saturday night till. 2 am and then sunday mass would be held in that same audotorium at times less than 10 hours later

Other ways to raise money imo

Catholics will sell anything to raise money, even against principle.

Yep, Catholics are all about making money off of abortion, contraception, embryonic stem cell research... oh wait, those are the people who bash Catholics. My bad.

The biggest druken gambling fair in our area is hosted by our local Catholic School- Fenwick HS. Lot's of dope smokin' there too.

Thx for reminding us how Fenwick HS is spokesman for the RCC and all Catholics everywhere follow their lead.

:D

Try to learn at least a little about something before you rip on it. FYI gambling itself is not forbidden by the RCC.

The anal-retentative Baptists may be another story :D

To answer the question, no I don't think it's going too far, at least based on the info given. Again it's not just the act of gambling itself but the circumstances surrounding it that matter.

Talked to the parent selling these squares today and the school is allowing it but telling them to kind of keep it on the down low, whatever that means. The superintendent has said that any teacher caught selling squares would immediately be terminated.

When I was 14 I bought ONE 25 cent ticket from a neighborhood friend who was selling them for the local Catholic elementary raffle. Needless to say I won the raffle ($100) the next week. Took a day off school and went and bought hockey sticks for the whole gang. God Bless you Catholic game of chance promoters. :D
