Steelers Select Grimm As Next Coach, Per Source

Mike Prisuta, Pittsburgh Tribune Review -

Russ Grimm has been offered and has accepted the Steelers' head coaching job, a source in Pittsburgh confirmed late Saturday. ESPN and SI.com, Sports Illustrated's Web site, reported yesterday that Vikings DC Mike Tomlin had been chosen to replace Bill Cowher. An NFL source confirmed yesterday that Tomlin had not heard from the Steelers and no contract negotiations had taken place. The hiring of Grimm will be announced Monday at a news conference.

The Viking finally get a great young coach and he's gone after one year! Why didn't someone take Tice off our hands a few years ago??

I assume he will lead the Steelers to the Superbowl in a couple of years!

I wish he could have stayed...congrats to him.

Looks like it. Were they taking the cheaper of the two?

The Trib Pulls Grimm Report. All Signs Point to Mike Tomlin.

I just finished my quarter hourly sweep of the usual sights for any more news on the coaching situation. What I found was a lot of what we all have read. What was interesting is what I didn't find. It seems that the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has pulled Mike Prisuta's article claiming Russ Grimm would be the new coach.

No way it takes two years, and they will probably win a minimum of 5 in a row.................... :D

This really sucks. :D

Maybe the Vikings will grab LeBeau now from the Steelers. Though i bet they just promote from within. I've heard Karl Dunbar's name mentioned as speculation.

My only question is that Tomlin is a cover two guy and aren't the Steelers a 3-4 defense? Who changes???

Le Beau would not fit our personnel right now would he??? So how many D-Cord is that for us in the last 5 years? 4????

That is the one thing that concerns me. I absolutely love Dick Lebeau's 3-4 zone-blitzing defense. With Tomlin coming in, I assume that the 3-4 will be no more and they will move to Tomlin's 4-3, Cover 2. This is going to be interesting to see how it is played out. The Steelers have personnel on defense that are made to fit the 3-4 (Casey Hamption, Aaron Smith, Porter, Haggans), and an adjustment to a 4-3 would be interesting, and may have a negative effect on the defense until they adjust their personnel or get the hang of the new defense. Or, perhaps, the Rooney's told Tomlin that he wanted LeBeau and his 3-4 to stay in place as a condition to his hirning (doubtful). Should be interesting to see what happens with the defense.

Now tomlinson woudl be a heck of a player-coash

I saw a quote from Tomlin that pretty much said "I like what I like" so here comes 4-3 and cover 2

+1

Going to have to be some personnel changes to switch to the 4-3, cover 2. Heard talk on the radio today that such a switch would obviate the need to a safety with such high talent as Polamalu, especially considering his price tag.

I don't like change.

Don't assume change just yet. Lebeau is going nowhere according to everything that I have heard and that includes Mike Tomlin. I have always liked the 3-4 but it takes special players that fit that scheme. I don't think that we are going to see a hugh change right off the bat. So far, every single thing that I am hearing Tomlin say is keeping me happy. He did not say that the days of the 3-4 where gone but that we need constant evaluation of the players and their skills.

Apparently the media has made yet another mistake in the announcement of the hiring of the next head coach of the Steelers. Turns out, here's the guy the Rooneys have actually given the job to. :D

That's still the toughest looking College Professor I've ever seen! :D

Wiegie, back me up on this one. :bash:
