Jets interested in Michael Turner

Apparently things are already starting to heat up regarding interest in Michael Turner. The following from Scouts.com backs that up.

Scout.com reports "sources familiar with the Chargers" believe the Jets are willing to trade their first-round pick for Michael Turner.

Turner, a restricted free agent, isn't even under contract with San Diego, but this appears to be a possibility once he's tendered. The Jets would then explore signing him long term. San Diego is reportedly now looking at running back prospects, possibly Penn State's Tony Hunt.

There have been other posts about Turner on this board, so it's clear that Huddlers know he's a talented guy who's going to excel when he becomes the starting RB for another team. He's the real deal. It'll be tough to see him go, but the Chargers' AJ Smith has proven that he's great at evaluating talent and an extra 1st round draft pick could certainly help the Chargers in other areas of need (e.g. WR, safety, or OLine, esp. if they lose Dielman to free agency).

I like that deal for the Jets too - might be one of those rare deals that's good for both sides.

IMO, it's too early to speculate, but the Jets have a potential gem in Leon Washington. Dude is VERY raw though. I personally think that the best landing spot for Turner would be with the Giants. He'd blossom in that system and would fit in perfectly.

I think after all the scrutiny the Giants have taken over the Rivers vs Eli trade I don't see them paying the draft picks to get Turner.

It would make more sense to me for the Giants to try to pick up a smaller / faster back to pair with Brandon Jacobs.

The Jets have two nice young runners in Houston and Washington, but I'd shat can Barlow.

I think Turner would be a great replacement for Ahman Green in Green Bay. Green's an UFA I believe, and he's going to want to get paid.

Turner would also run wild in the Falcon's system IMO. Dunn showed some mileage this year, and they could 1-2 Turner and Norwood.

Somebody's going to make SD an offer they can't refuse though.

I thought that Leon Washington did a nice job for them last year.

Is it that he's more suited to be a third-down back?

In my opinion, yes. Plus, the wave of the future is basically 2 running backs anyway. So a scenerio where Turner gets around 20 carries and Leon maybe gets 12 carries and some screen passes makes sense to me.

Agreed. At 5'8", 202 pounds (and that might be generous), I'm not sure Washington can last as an every down back.

Eerily similar to a guy named Barry Sanders...5'8" 203 pounds. I am NOT saying that Leon is the second coming but physically, the two match up. If Barry took the pounding, Leon can as well.

Wouldn't that be funny if San Diego again stuck it to the Giants in making a deal for Turner? I'd think it's pretty funny!

I'm sure A.J. is lickin' his chops!

I believe something was posted about this.......I am always amused at people saying small backs can't handle the full load when year after year there are small rb's who are good.

Same with wr's, too small for NFL, but if I recall, SSmith wasn't a monster last time I checked. :D

Willie Parker - 5'10" 209 lbs

Tiki Barber - 5'10" 195 lbs

Chester Taylor - 5'11" 213

Maurice Jones-Drew - 5'6" 207

Washington's size isn't the ideal, but it's pretty apparent he's big ENOUGH where it shouldn't be a huge worry. More troubling is his history of always having some minor ding.

Well, with WRs, I think you really DO need some height (or at least tremendous leaping ability) so as not to completely disappear in the end zone; I'd say S Smith is one of VERY few exceptions to the rule that 5'11" is about as low as you want to go.

Most shorter WRs tend to get by on quicks - DBs need to have height and a tall guy just isn't as shifty as a smaller one.

I know people who physically match up with Ron Jeremy. But most fat hairy guys don't become porn stars.

I'm hoping for him to come out in one Dynasty I'm in....

Laveranues Coles Height: 5-11

Lee Evans Height: 5-10 Are a couple more to put in there. You won't see many Wr's listed under 6 ft even though they may be shorter.

Coles - yeah, 5'11", like Donald Driver, LIKE I SAID.

Evans - 5'10" with tremendous leaping ability, like I said.

As far as being shorter but being listed taller, aside from running around fields during pregame warmups with a tape measure, I can only go by what is posted. Bottom line is, if an NFL team has a guy shorter than 6' in their starting lineup, in about 99 cases out of 100, they will be looking to find a taller guy to replace him.

Settle down big boy...I was just listing a couple guys...without a tape measure. Just saying 6'0" doesn't really efine it anymore although I agree that it is something that I would look for. Saints fan here...wouldn't look for Henderson to be a #1. Down boy.

I thought this topic was concerning Turner to the Jets. My mistake. :D

And yet you cease to mention either in this thread outside of that clever comment :bash:

Edit for adding that Popeye not only didn't mention tuner or Jets in this post but not in the thread other than that post. :D

Barry Sanders is a once in a lifetime back.

MJD split carries...

I didnt see what you guys saw in Washington... He looked like he could be a pretty good 3rd down back.

My bad, I misread. Too many run-ins with some of our more hard-headed posters here lead one to jump to the offensive from the word go. I'm sure you understand.

Of course, had he read the thread, he might've put 2 and 2 together and realized that a discussion of Leon Washington's size directly impacts the Jets desire for Turner.

Are you going to call these guys...

Willie Parker - 5'10" 209 lbs

Tiki Barber - 5'10" 195 lbs

Chester Taylor - 5'11" 213

..."once-in-a-lifetime backs" as well? and before you say that Tiki split carries, he's averaged 20+ carries per game each of the past 3 years; that's a full boat.
