Walter Football 3 round mock draft.

That's a very credible piece of work. The only things that really jump out at me immediately is that for the life of me I don't understand why people have JAX going WR in the 1st round and I see DET going QB in round 2, but sure as the Seven Hells not with Troy Smith - I really like them to take stanton there.

Id rather Dallas take Levi Brown in round 1.

Merriweather in round 2 isnt bad, if he is there

Round 3, Id love to see dallas get the colorado PK. But something tells me he too will be gone, though not in this mock.

why on earth would you want levi brown sgt ryan?...ask your buddy bronco billy, hell tell ya, levi brown is garbage!....lol i like him though...and i really like merriweather...i think his character concerns are overblown...again my only reservation about him is the way he throws his body around...and id be worried about him getting hurt....but i wouldnt mind my pats getting their hands on him at 28

and yeah caveman...i could not see the vikings passing on quinn...especially to take gaines adams...i think they have a potentially potent pass rushing duo in udeze and erasmus james....i think james tore an acl last year...i dunno what his status is really....but i cant see them spending another 1st rounder on a DE, if they think james can come back

Do people really see Quinn falling that far? Past Washington? Past Minnesota? Past Cleveland and Tampa?

I don't see Quinn falling to Miami.

tampa should draft him, but are supposedly enamored with Calvin Johnson. I think you get the Qb first, but that is just me. Washington spent a 1st on Jason Campell, they will not take a QB in round 1. Cleveland knows it can get a QB in round 2. Troy Smith

And in every mock I have seen the Pats are taking a WR in round one. I just don't see that happening.

me either.

Kiper has NE taking Tony Gonzalez... the 7th WR taken, 2nd best on OSU, in the FIRST round??? That's something DET or OAK would do, not NE. I don't think they would've went WR last year if it weren't for the fact that they still had their pick of any WR (besides Holmes).

There's just something fishy about the WR pool when many mocks have 4-7 WRs going in the 1st. After the top 2 or 3, is it REALLY worth burning your 1st overall on a WR? Imo, no way.

Unless they are not impressed with Campell...

It's a move I can see Dan Snyder making.

I am not sure that Troy Smith is an NFL QB, and I imagine Romeo has some doubts as well. We know that Frye isn't getting it done. Same thing with Chris Simms in Tampa.

Who knows, maybe I'm all wet...but I just don't see Quinn being there at number 9.

Interesting...

Pick me, pick me!!! Cleveland hasn’t always been thought of as one of those franchises that players just want to play for, however, at least two of this year’s prime QB prospects has indicated that they’d like to be drafted by the Browns at the 2007 draft. Troy Smith, Ohio State's Heisman Trophy-winning QB, for one, has been publicly lobbying his hometown team to take him at this April’s draft. Speaking after being named Cleveland’s outstanding collegiate athlete this week, Smith was quoted as saying that "hopefully, I'll get a chance to represent you guys at the next level with the Cleveland Browns." Smith was also seen wearing a Browns’ team jacket during a recent halftime ceremony at an Ohio State basketball game. Meanwhile, Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn, another native Ohioan, has also let it be known that he wouldn’t mind playing for the Browns. Quinn, though, is expected to be a very high pick this coming April, so Cleveland would almost assuredly have to take him with their opening round if they wanted to add the former Irish star. On the other hand, Smith will almost assuredly be available when the Browns make their second round pick this year; indeed, its not out of the question that Smith could also slip into the third round. Its also not clear yet whether the Browns have any interest in taking a QB with an early pick. The Browns are unsettled at the position with Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson expected to compete for the job next fall.

ill tell you what...i would love for the patriots to be able to get their hands on anthony gonzalez...in the 2nd...and they would probably have to trade up to do so...which id have no problem with....id like to see them get their hands on a quality LB( i just dunno who will still be there that id like at 24 or 28) and a DB like merriweather in the first...then trade up for gonzalez in the 2nd....

then comes the gamble...i would really like to see the pats land eric wright from unlv...this kid shut down mark clayton as a freshman in the national title game with usc...transfered after an off the field incident...i think hes flown under the radar...and his character issues will drop...i think he could be a huge steal...and you can always use corner depth...i think this could be a pro bowler...fast and physical...goes about 5-11 190...i like this kid alot

I don't see Miami taking Quinn, especially after picking up C-Pep and Harrington. Washington or Houston will take him.

BTW, why are the Colts assumed to have the last pick? :D

Can someone copy/paste here? Blocked at work. Thx.

Oakland Raiders: JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU

I've had Brady Quinn as the No. 1 in all of my mocks up until now. His horrendous performance in the Sugar Bowl has cost him the top spot in the draft, and perhaps even a top 10 selection.

There are two things Al Davis looks for every April: athleticism and arm strength (for quarterbacks). JaMarcus Russell has both attributes, and reminds me of Daunte Culpepper circa 2004. Moreover, Russell's ability to elude defenders will come in handy once opposing pass rushers easily squeak through Oakland's pitiful offensive line.

Detroit Lions: Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin

How tempted do you think Matt Millen will be to select Calvin Johnson? Sadly, I can see him doing that. There are a number of options available for Millen at this point. Johnson's not going to fly in the Motor City, and neither is Brady Quinn. What the Lions should do is trade down, but I'm not sure if Millen is cunning enough to accomplish something like that.

Thus, the remaining possibilities are Gaines Adams, Alan Branch and Joe Thomas. I believe Detroit will pursue Simeon Rice, so Thomas seems like the most logical choice. Wait, why am I talking about logic? Millen is clueless -- he'll probably take the guy he's most familiar with. Let's hope he's actually heard of one of those three guys.

Adrian Peterson is a dark-horse option. The oft-injured Kevin Jones has not lived up to expectations, and the Lions need a dependable stud at running back.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech

Joey Galloway just turned 35, and Michael Clayton has been a huge disappointment after an incredible rookie campaign, so Jon Gruden won't hesitate to grab the top receiver on the board. Chris Simms could use a top-notch wide out.

Cleveland Browns: Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma

If Joe Thomas is available, Cleveland will take him, no questions asked. If not, it could be Adrian Peterson; Reuben Droughns, who turns 29 in August, averaged just 3.4 yards per carry in 2006.

I believe the Browns will pass on Brady Quinn, despite the ties between Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel. A quarterback will come via free agency or Round 2.

Arizona Cardinals: Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas

Bert Berry and Chike Okeafor aren't bad, but both will be over the age of 31 by the start of the 2007 season. Besides, the Cardinals need a premier pass rusher. Berry and Okeafor combined for 14.5 sacks in 2006, which isn't bad considering Berry missed six contests. But with that said, Arizona needs to get younger and better at defensive end.

Washington Redskins: Alan Branch, DT, Michigan

I don't know where to start with Washington's defense; it can't stop the run or get to the quarterback. It also features Shawn Springs and Troy Vincent, two fossilized veterans who have lost a step. The Redskins could go with a number of players at this point, but given their inability to shut down Tiki Barber in Week 17, Daniel Snyder may opt for Alan Branch.

Minnesota Vikings: Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson

I've had the Vikings taking Dwayne Jarrett in this spot my last couple of mocks, but I now feel that No. 7 might be too high for him. Plus, if Brad Childress comes from the Andy Reid school of thought, receiver isn't really as important as some of the other positions. The Vikings have a pathetic pass rush, so they'll be hoping that someone like Gaines Adams can change that.

Houston Texans: Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville

Houston desperately needs help at defensive tackle; Travis Johnson hasn't lived up to his billing, Seth Payne is always injured, while Anthony Maddox and Lional Dalton just aren't legitimate starters in this league. Amobi Okoye and Mario Williams would be a great 1-2 punch up front for years to come.

Miami Dolphins: Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame

Daunte Culpepper. Joey Harrington. Cleo Lemon. Need I write more?

Atlanta Falcons: Leon Hall, CB, Michigan

The Falcons signed Lawyer Milloy last offseason, but he's just a temporary fix. Atlanta needs a long-term solution next to Chris Crocker. Word is that Bobby Petrino plans to move Jimmy Williams to safety, creating a need for a top-notch cornerback.

San Francisco 49ers: LaRon Landry, S, LSU

Anyone who watched New Orleans destroy San Francisco knows the 49ers desperately need help at defensive back. The team's current starters at safety are Mark Roman and Keith Lewis. Keith who-is? Exactly. LaRon Landry could be ahead of them on the depth chart by mini-camp.

Buffalo Bills: Patrick Willis, MLB, Ole Miss

In my September and October mock drafts, I had the Bills taking a quarterback. Given J.P. Losman's improvement late in the season, I changed this selection to Patrick Willis, who will do a good job replacing London Fletcher, a free agent this offseason. Defensive tackle is also an option, but Willis is the best player available.

St. Louis Rams: Lawrence Timmons, OLB, FSU

The Rams are a complete mess on defense and need help at almost every position. Lawrence Timmons offers an enormous upgrade over Brandon Chillar.

Carolina Panthers: Reggie Nelson, S, Florida

Carolina needs help at linebacker and safety, assuming they go the defensive route. Shaun Williams just isn't getting the job done, while Mike Minter just turned 33.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Jarvis Moss, DE/OLB, Florida

One of the reasons why the Steelers have been so successful over the past few years has been because of their pass rush. However, there were far too many occasions in 2006 when they just couldn't get to the quarterback (they failed to register a single sack against Baltimore in two games). It also hurts that both Joey Porter and Clark Haggans will be free agents after the 2007 season.

Green Bay Packers: Marshawn Lynch, RB, California

Ahman Green rushed for more than 1,000 yards in 2006, but he turns 30 in February. The Packers need to find a long-term replacement as soon as possible. Marshawn Lynch is a steal at No. 15.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Ted Ginn, WR, Ohio State

Everyone saw how many passes Jacksonville's receiving corps dropped during its Monday Night Football contest against the Giants. All of the Jaguars' wide outs happen to be of the possession variety. They need a speed-burner.

Cincinnati Bengals: Paul Posluszny, OLB, Penn State

Odell Thurman is likely done in Cincinnati, while David Pollack may never play again. So basically, the linebacking corps is in shambles. Paul Posluszny, who will help turn the Bengals' defense around, is a good-character player that Cincinnati desperately needs.

Tennessee Titans: Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC

Norm Chow wasn't able to obtain his former quarterback in last year's draft, so maybe the Titans will give him the receiver he used to coach. Vince Young definitely needs a quality wide out; he's currently throwing to Drew Bennett, Bo Scaife and Bobby Wade.

New York Giants: Darrelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh

The Giants could use a running back at this juncture, but they'll likely take a defensive player and find Barber's replacement in the second round. New York quickly discovered that Sam Madison is not the cornerback they thought he was; Madison struggled this year, and is now nothing more than a third corner.

Denver Broncos: Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska

Perhaps Denver's greatest need this offseason is someone who can generate a consistent pass rush; no Bronco had more than 8.5 sacks in 2006.

Dallas Cowboys: Justin Blalock, G/OT, Texas

Right guard Marco Rivera will be 35 by the start of next season. The Cowboys need to find a younger, better replacement. However, if Reggie Nelson is still available, Dallas will take him, no questions asked.

Kansas City Chiefs: Levi Brown, OT, Penn State

Hmmm... I wonder what the Chiefs are going to do in this spot. Both of their offensive tackles retired prior to the 2006 season, so they can't be addressing that position, can they? Why don't you ask Herm Edwards what he thinks? "Can't block. Can't block. Can't block."

New England Patriots: Aaron Ross, CB, Texas

An insurance policy just in case Asante Samuel leaves via free agency. Aaron Ross has seen his draft stock rise thanks to a great Senior Bowl week.

New York Jets: Daymeion Hughes, CB, California

Unless Amobi Okoye somehow slips down all the way to No. 25, the Jets will likely pick the top cornerback available. I don't care how many players are injured; how can Hank Poteat possibly start for any NFL team -- or CFL squad for that matter?

Philadelphia Eagles: Michael Griffin, S, Texas

Brian Dawkins is still playing really well, but his skills will quickly erode within the next few years. Meanwhile, Michael Lewis, once a promising safety, was benched in October. Andy Reid must address the safety position.

New Orleans Saints: Rufus Alexander, OLB, Oklahoma

Thomas Jones is still running the ball for 8-yard gains. Watching the NFC Championship, it was obvious the Saints need lots of help in the middle. They'll take the best defensive tackle or linebacker available.

New England Patriots: Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU

I guess the Patriots got what they deserve. If they would have just paid Deion Branch his money, Reche Caldwell wouldn't have been on the field that often.

Baltimore Ravens: Quentin Moses, DE/OLB, Georgia

The Ravens don't need a linebacker right now, but they will if another team signs Adalius Thomas this offseason.

San Diego Chargers: Buster Davis, ILB, Florida State

Randall Godfrey and Donnie Edwards will both be 34 by the 2007 Draft. The former was even thinking about retiring this past offseason. San Diego needs a young, talented inside linebacker.

Chicago Bears: Aaron Sears, OT/G, Tennessee

I've had the Bears taking a tight end my past couple of mock drafts, but a few e-mailers have pointed out that left guard Ruben Brown is mulling retirement. Plus, it doesn't help that right tackle Fred Miller turns 34 in February. Aaron Sears, who can play almost every position on the offensive front, will likely play guard next year before settling in at right tackle the day Miller leaves.

Indianapolis Colts: Marcus Thomas, DT, Florida

The Colts are dead last against the run because they have no size on the interior of their defensive line. Unfortunately for Indianapolis, Tony Dungy likes speed more than bulk. So, odds are that the Colts choose the smallest defensive tackle available. Sorry, Indy.

I don't see Quinn falling to Miami.

it's possible imo...

Russell... definite possibility but Russell is a specimen.

Detroit... so many needs. Throw Quinn behind that patchwork O-line and I doubt you'd see much improvement over what Kitna did this year.

Cleveland... Yes going into training camp they will have competition at the position but throw Quinn in and that's just one more to compete only with a heftier price tag. I think through week 5 Frye was their leading rusher which is just sad. Peterson would start week 1.

TB... this is actually a possibility as they don't have much $ tied up in the position but Gruden likes Simms, Gradkowski looked OK, and Rattay is a decent veteran backup.

AZ... they have Leinart.

Skins... again burnt an early pick on Campbell and have a vet backup in Brunell. They just have so many problems on D.

Vikes... a possibility but they are so lacking at the skill position (WR, and to a lesser extent at RB) that drafting a QB here would do nothing to significantly improve the offense. Nice run D but they create no pass rush.

Texans... definite possibility but they picked up Carr's $8m option before last season and they're a team with so many other glaring needs (RB, CB, S, DT, OL, WR).

Phins... perfect.
