If he has a weak combine, he wont be a 1st rounder. And lets just say he wasnt all that, all season.

ill respect your opinion...you probably see a lil more big 12 action than I

mike mamula...justin smith...they had great combines....the guy has 4-3/3-4 versatility...i think showing up well in practices means alot more nowadays than a great combine showing

If Carricker manages to slide by DEN in the 1st I'll be seriously pissed. The guy is a big-time handful & I'll bet a dime to a dollar his game transfers almost intact to the pros.

Of course, I was seriously pissed a few years back when Shanahan passed up Steven Jackson in the first & took DJ Williams instead...

My point is this guy didnt have a dominating season, thus one week doesnt make you a 1st rounder. If he has a weak combine, to go with an average season, he will likely slip out of round 1. Im not saying he is not a good player, or a team like NE wouldnt take a chance on him at the end of round 1. But He is certainly not a lock 1st rounder and depending on teams need, could easily fall to round 2.

I heard an interesting rumor, that Shanny is interested in trading up with Houston or Minnesota to select Peterson if he is there. Something like this yrs 1st and 2nd and next yrs 1 for 1.8 and next yrs 2nd. Have you heard anything like that in Denver.

did he not play well...or did he just not put up any numbers to really brag about? i mean i think there is a huge difference...i mean i think richard seymour put up something like 2 sacks his sr year at georgia

as far as the pats taking a chance on him...well i dont really think the pats need an end/tackle...they are pretty good right now...but ya never know with these guys

Adam Carriker

Height: 6-6 | Weight: 295 | 40-Time: 4.85

Official Bio

Strengths:

Has outstanding size and a big frame...Has tremendous strength and is extremely powerful...Holds his ground and is exceptional against the run...Has a motor that never stops...Solid tackler...Instinctive and pursues well...Is technically sound and uses his hands well...Is versatile and could play a number of different roles and positions...Very productive...Tough guy and a hard worker with great intangibles.

Weaknesses:

Is not overly athletic and lacks great timed speed...A DE / DT 'tweener...He might be too tall and has trouble protecting his lower body...Is not a great natural pass rusher...Is not explosive and doesn't have a burst to close...Has battled through a series of minor injuries during his career...May not be a good fit for every team.

Notes:

Might be able to move inside to tackle but his best fit at the pro level will probably come as a defensive end in a 3-4 scheme...He isn't the type of flashy pass rusher we are accustomed to seeing from the position but that isn't everything...With so many teams now moving to the 34 defense there will probably be a high demand for this guy so don't be surprised if the "Blackshirt" goes higher than most expect.

The most intriguing thing about Carricker is that he plays the run & the pass equally well. Given the NEB D scheme the numbers above are very solid, and compare pretty well with Grant Wistrom on a per-game basis for his career at NEB.

basically a little bigger version of kyle vanden bosch...with the potential to play inside at tackle maybe in certain situations....again...id have to watch some tape....cause i dont really think statistical numbers tell the whole story when it comes to defensive linemen

where would you take AP in a fantasy draft if denver got ahold of him and cut ties with tatum bell?

Nothing like that at all coming out of DEN. Shanahan has never used a 1st round pick on a RB. I don't see him starting now with some decent talent sitting in the 2nd tier of RBs and how likely one or more of those guys are to fall to DEN in the 2nd round.

oh man..i gotta disagree....i dont think theres been an elite prospect whos style has been more tailor made for denvers schemes than AP's...now would be the time to take a chance....although i do think gary russell from minnesota could get a look by denver

Dynasty League, Id take him 4th behind LT, LJ and SJ.

Redraft, 5th or later, behind the 3 above and SA.

I agree, probably just a rumor. But Bell was a 2nd rounder and he wasnt the answer. Taking another RB in round 2, that could also be a flop isnt wise for sure.

No, T Bell wasn't the answer with a 2nd rounder, but in 2002 Shanahan bypassed William Green, TJ Duckett, and Deshaun Foster and plucked Portis with his 2nd round pick & got the first RB in NFL history to put up 1500+ rushing yds in each of his first two seasons - and Portis didn't play a full schedule in either year.

I don't see Peterson as a prototypical DEN RB, and I know for a fact that Shanahan hates overpaying for RBs, especially given his track record with lesser RBs in his system.

BTW - I'd watch some of that same RB philosophy from Kubiak in HOU. Dayne had a lot of success at the end of last year and I'd be surprised if Kubiak drafted a RB very early given what he learned from Shanahan in all his years in DEN.

yeah i hear ya...good point....still...i dont see any of this years crop of 2nd tier guys that are blessed with the physical gifts of portis and even tatum bell for that matter....i realize hes had a track record with lesser guys...but AP in that system, to me, is 1800+ yards potential...possibly alot more depending on the number of carries....

Don't be surprised at all to see Kenny Irons or Antonio Pittman go to DEN with either their 2nd rounder or pick 3.06 from the Lelie trade. If Shanahan doesn't take one of those guys or someone else early, I'd keep a close eye on Chris Henry, Dwayne Wright, Gary Russell, or Ken Darby on the second day. They all fit the DEN RB profile fairly well and could be brought in to legitimately compete for a starting job. For some reason, Darby really jumps out at me as a 2nd day pick who might be a nice fit here.

Edited to add Thomas Clayton as one of those guys who fits the DEN profile & could be an early 2nd day pick. He's another guy I really like in the DEN backfield.

ill be surprised if carriker isn't a first round pick. he was good this year, he got double teamed by basically everyone. 6'6 295lbs, w/ a 4.8 40 isnt too shabby. he also switched a lot from end to DT on pass rush situations, and we'd put a real fast DE in at his place. he could play any position along the D line, and did a lot. he's very versatile. he's got great strength and goes all out. his year by year numbers show he was very good, and most experts (kiper, etc) have him going around #20ish in the first round. anyway just surprised he wasnt there.

Sarge, how does Rufus compare with Beason from Miami? I honestly don't know a whole lot about either, but I've seen his name mentioned among the better OLBs in the draft.

Rufus Alexander & Jon Beason are similar players. Both guys are about the same size - 6'-0", 230 lb range - which projects them both into WLB roles at the pro level. Both guys are outstanding at lateral pursuit and both guys are fast enough to stay in on pass packages, though Beason is the faster of the two. Beason can probably carry more weight effectively than Alexander also.

The differences between the two are that Beason is the more instinctive of the two players. Alexander will make bigger plays, especially rushing the passer, but Beason is more consistent & better against the run. Alexander has a tough time shedding blocks & tries to run around blockers at times, and he doesn't play hard all the time, while Beason has a good motor.

I'd compare Beason favorably to a guy like Ian Gold of DEN. He'll probably go in the late 2nd/early 3rd round - about the 6th or 7th LB off the board - and will be a solid starter in a conventional defensive system. Alexander will probably go 1 1/2 to 2 rounds later and if he's going to start regularly he'll probably have to go to a 3/4 team, and it would definitely benefit him to play in a cover 2 system. On a conventional 4/3 team he'll most probably be more of a specialist/special teamer.

As far as FF goes, Beason might be a nice player to add as a 3rd LB. He won't put up eye popping numbers, but he'll be very steady with his production. Alexander, if he catches on with the right team, will be one of those FF LBs who'll give you the 6 tackle/2 sack game one week and a 2 tackle/0 sack game the next two - very frustrating to carry on the roster but can give you great production if you're lucky enough to play him the right week.

Pretty good effort & I think we're getting closer to what we'll really see in April with each successive effort.

I don't think there's a chance that CLE would pass on Quinn, especially given Weiss' strong endorsement & the bond that Weiss & Crennal have from their NE days. I don't see a TE going in round 1 either, even with one of the last picks in the round. I also think Shanahan will stick with Foxworth to replace D Williams at CB (much to the horrors of DEN fans as Foxworth will continue to get toasted), so I think he may go DL there instead.

Hate to say it, but I think your right. It seems pretty clear that the Cleveland Dline is not the answer in Denver. I do think, however, that Shanny picks up some depth at CB through free agnecy. Hopefully that will help the CB situation. I also think RB is addressed eigher early in the draft, or through free agency.
