They're talking about it on Cold Pizza this morning... saying it's certainly a fireable offense. Saying it is, essentially, on par with "the N-word".... I don't know if I'd take it to THAT extreme...

Don't think it's that bad myself although many down here are offended. Now if he would have coached at Grambling...

I really don't see the big deal, I am from La and have a few relatives from down the bayou who qualify as coonasses, It doesn't offend them or me. I really think this country is going overboard on some of this racial slur stupidity.but let me shut up now.

If you were raised down here you actually don't mind the word when used properly. However make no mistake about it, Saban was using it a derogatory manner. He could have easily said, you know one of the uneducated men digging in the ditch.

Word around here is that Saban embellished the original story told to him by replacing the word SOB with coonass. Granted it made the story more humorous since he coached in Louisiana, but not too sure how many Italians preferred to be called Dago or Russians Pinko. No real offense taken down here. Just some disappointment that Saban would disrespect the very fans who once adored him. I’m pretty sure he regrets his choice of words.
