Final 2007 Rivals.com Team Ranking

SEC should continue to dominate college football for years to come grabbing seven out of the top ten spots in the final 2007 rankings. Its not the bias of one recruiting organization either. Our conference is ranked very similarly by scout as well.

I know that Rivals tends to have Southern bias. They really tend to like the kids from Texas and Florida (the states that is.) I don't put a whole lot into these type of rankings. Texas has had a top 5 recruiting class every year since 1999 and finally won a NC in 2005. Some of it is coaching (I hate Greg Davis) but some of it is how well can you really rank all the HS kids in the nation? Who has time to watch all the game film?

Bingo.

The only ones who get ranked are the ones who parade themselves out there to the highest bidders. There are plenty of kids who have been going to the same camps year-in and year-out, who have relationships with college coaches, and will never get the publicity as some of the kids who have to get fought over to commit to someplace.

Reality is that 50% of these KIDS won't pan out the way the "scouts" project them to.

Nevertheless it gives the college football-niks something to masturbate over during the winter time.

No doubt not every kid ranked high will make it big, but it is probably the best way to look into the future.

Reggie Bush, JaMarcus Russell,

There are 25 5-star recruits on that list.

How many turned out to be star players? I'm counting 4...maybe 5?

Not sure what your point is...Are you saying you would rather have a recruiting class of three or two star athletes? :D

Going in the first round of the NFL draft is no guarantee of success either, but I would take 7 first rounders anyday over seven 3rd or 4th rounders.

I'm saying that ranking recruiting classes on letter of intent day is completely irrelevant and a measurement of nothing.

ETA: What's the point of getting a 5-star player if he's dropping balls for Northern Iowa by his senior season, or his knees suck, or he didn't physically mature the way he projected?

You have a lot of reading comprehension problems. Explain these teams performance last season with this group of seniors?

2006 final AP ranking

2003 - 2006 is the 4th year of players recruited

1 LSU 28 1 17 10 3.68 2,626 #3

2 Florida 26 5 9 10 3.65 2,358 #1

3 Southern Cal 28 2 10 14 3.43 2,327 #4

4 Oklahoma 24 0 16 6 3.58 2,121 #11

LSU and FSU both had down years in 2002, so obviously they had some great talent come in that resulted in really good teams in 2006. USC and Oklahoma were top programs in 2002 and are top programs now.

My question to you would be to counter your insistence that these kinds of rankings mean something beyond setting expectations in February, where is Ohio State on this ranking list? How about Wisconsin? Louisville? Michigan? Boise State?

5 Miami-FL 24 3 10 10 3.63 2,067 Unranked

6 Georgia 25 2 8 13 3.40 1,947 #23

7 NC State 28 1 6 17 3.14 1,889 Unranked

8 South Carolina 29 1 4 18 3.00 1,831 Unranked

9 Mississippi State 28 2 3 18 3.07 1,799 Unranked

10 Texas A&M 24 1 5 17 3.25 1,778 Unranked

Explain why these teams are listed on the same poll, yet were not quality squads on the field.

Essentially, AGAIN, I'll say that ranking recruiting classes on letter of intent day is completely irrelevant and a measurement of nothing. You're doing nothing to prove anything different to me.

:D Let's try one more time to explain how the Rivals.com star system seems to work pretty good. This time lets use this year's NFL projected top draft choices and and see if that helps you better understand. Granted there are always some exceptions but for the most part the star rating system has gotten alot better of late considering HS schools and combines are providing more reliable information these days.

Ready! Let's get started with my favorite team LSU of course. :D
