This is the first I've heard that they're looking at losing him for the first half of the season. Might as well expect him to be gone for the entire season. There are some concerns about Petersons durability, but it is definitely worth the risk with his incredible talent. He is BY FAR the best rb in this draft. Passing on him here would be worse than the idiots in Houson passing on Bush and Young last year. I am shocked that there isnt a groundswell of support coming out of Lion Land to jump on this kid. I said it before, it does not matter who they have at RB or QB (unless it is Barry Sanders) unless the O-line is worth a d@mn! Otherwise they will continue to suck. Otherwise they will continue to suck. Taking A.P. would be a waste of a pick. Plenty of VERY Good offensive linemen can be found in later rounds. There will be NO Adrian Petersons after the first 10 picks of this draft. Just my 2 cents but who am I to tell a great organization like the Lions who they should pick... Meh. This is the same logic that had the Lions take Mike Williams. Somehow, I tend to doubt these "can't miss" kids coming out of school, because so many of them do miss. If the Lions needed a RB, that would be one thing. The reality is that one skill position player isn't going to do diddly for the Lions. Even with KJ out for a good portion of the year, OL, DE, CB, and maybe even LB are still far more pressing needs for the Lions. Even if Calhoun, Bryson, and Harris have to play for the whole of 2007, I think the team is still better off in the long term by adding OL or DE in the first round. I'm not comfortable going with Calhoun, Bryson and Harris, but at the same time I think Joe Thomas makes more sense than AP. Quality running backs can be found after the first round or in free agency. Bryson is a 3rd down back, Harris is a backup and Calhoun is a huge ?, but pretty much the only one of the three with any upside. The Lions have to add someone to the mix, but not in the first round. I think oline and a passing rushing DE are the Lions biggest needs and they have to address one of those with their top pick. It goes OL, DE, CB, LB, RB, project QB. Every step he took on it set him back further. Jones injury was diagnosed quickly and had surgery a few days later. I'm in the camp that beleives he'll be ready to go in mid to late August. Conflicting reports state that the Lions can expect to lose Jones for “at least half the 2007 season” and also that Jones will be ready for the 2007 season. Jones himself is “feeling good” and, as Lions’ Head Trainer Al Bellamy stated, “We are extremely happy with Kevin’s progress. What’s up with Lions’ RB… There have been conflicting reports out of Detroit about the rehabilitation of Lions’ RB Kevin Jones who suffered a serious Lisfranc foot injury late in the season. On the one hand there have been reports that the Lions were concerned that Jones would not be ready to play until at least the mid-point of the upcoming season. That led to some speculation that the Lions, who have the 2nd pick overall at the 2007 draft, might take a long look at Oklahoma RB Adrian Peterson with their opening point. There have been other reports, though, that suggest that Jones’ rehabilitation is on pace for him to be back in uniform late this summer. And that has led to some further speculation that the Lions actually leaked the original story themselves in an attempt to drive up the price on a possible trade for the second pick.
