Calvin Johnson = fast

Let the hype begin!

Calvin Johnson runs a 4.33 in the 40

Calvin Johnson, preparing for the league's scouting combine in Indianapolis next week, was clocked at 4.33 in the 40. He also recorded an 11-foot standing broad jump and had a vertical leap of 43 inches.

While Johnson might not be the first player chosen, he is clearly separating himself as the top player in the 2007 NFL draft. Johnson is a rare talent. He is 6'-4", 234 pounds, and runs a 4.33 40 yard dash!

His combination of size, speed, hands, intelligence and work ethic are unheard of at the receiver position. Think Randy Moss talent with a Marvin Harrison work ethic. In fact Johnson is actually 25 pounds bigger then Moss and if the 4.33 - 40 is accurate, just as fast.

That speed with that sort of size is VERY unusual. And dangerous. You have fast small (or average) sized guys. And you have really big guys that can act as great possession receivers. You rarely get both in one package. He is worth watching to be sure...

He's going to participate in the participate in the combine right? Just making sure.

He is one of those guys where his ball skills alone make him an incredible player. Throw in the speed, I dunno. I know there is no such thing as a "can't miss" prospect, but I can honestly say I will be surprised if he is not a hall of famer when all is said and done. That's right, I said it.

Yes, but only once. :D

Hello Tampa Bay's new target!!!

Harper can keep up with him. He ran stride for stride with Bush all thru camp last year. :D

He's fast, but I seriously doubt he's 4.33 fast. Let's see what he does at the combine when he's on an even playing field with the other players. His agent sure is doing a good job of promoting him though, that's for sure. (It's my understanding that all this info came through his agent)

most of the big time prospects don't work out at the combine. they have a day set up at their university for all the scouts to come watch them on their own turf.

I don't know about most, but yeah, there are those who insist on only attending their pro day. Sometimes, it hurts them.

At the rate the hype is going on Calvin, I would be surprised to see him work out at the combine. Most of the expected top ten players (QB, RB, WR) do not work out at the combine. They show up for interviews and may do a few things, but for guys that are considered best at their position, they only have slotting to lose by working out with everyone else.

I hope that Matt Millen isn't reading this.

:D

forget about the past for a second....don't you really think that is the best pick he could make there? if they're not going to grab quinn (which makes the most sense to me), why not take calvin if he's the best player on the board? detroit's problem has been the PLAYERS they have picked, not the positions they have picked.

It would not be a bad pick it just is not really a position they need help at. The have Roy Williams and they just signed Furry to a long term deal. Also, Mike Williams is also in the mix (for now). The best pick would be to pick Quinn but if not, grab Joe Thomas.

that's true, i didn't know for sure what furrey's contract status was. so it's not exactly a hugh position of need, but still, if he's clearly the best player available i don't think mike furrey keeps you from drafting him.
