WACO, Texas -- The father of San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson was killed Friday in an auto accident, authorities said.

Oliver Tomlinson, 71, of Chilton was killed in the 1:30 p.m. one-vehicle rollover, said Charlie Morgan, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman.

Tragic after the great year LT has had. :D

:D:tup:

Just NOT fair. :D For all the success on the field, LT has been tested greatly off the last few years. Yet he continues to give back to the community when others would throw up their hands and crawl into a shell. :D

Thoughts and prayers!

Lt's dad and brother both died in the accident, just reported on local news.

It was actually his brother-in-law, not his brother, at least according to CNN/SI. Also, the official accident report does not mention a blown tire, rather it says that the vehicle veered off the road and was over corrected.

I've read this thread a number of times now, and have wanted to post something, but nothing quite captures how bad I feel for Tomlinson.

I wonder what this will do to the guy? Everyone handles grief so differently. There is a long time between now and the next time that he needs to put on football pads... it wouldn't surprise me at all if he plays even harder than ever this upcoming season in honor of his lost father.

My honest opinion is that it won't have a big impact one way or another. It was tragic loss and no body should lose a father that way. However his father was also older and the thought of his eventual passing I'm sure was somewhere in their minds, even if only in the back. If LT was with his father, had caused the accident, etc, then I think there would be much more of a chance for issues.

For a similar type of loss, look at Brett Favre and the loss of his father suddenly to a heart attack a few years back.
