For all you doubters who thought his 4.33 was fudged, the guy turned a 4.35 40 this morning - and with his long stride it looked a lot slower - I thought we'd hear a time in the 4.45/4.5 range, it looked like he wasn't working hard to do it.

On top of that, he originally wasn't going to run, so he had to borrow someone else's shoes to do it.

Holy crap, you think some DCs are saying their prayers at night that he's not drafted into their division? T.O. without the attitude...

Best player in the entire draft. He is a beast! I wish there was someway the Titans could make a deal to move up and get this guy. Maybe Tampa would be interested in Pacman Jones... :D

That and even taller. 6'5. Looks like he'll go to Tampa at the moment. Carolina will need some CB's.

let me ask this....do the detroit lions really want to be the team that drafted chuck rogers and mike williams, but PASSED on calvin johnson? just sayin'....

Its a no-win situation for Detriot. If they pass, then people will make fun of them for the reason that you pointed out. If they go for them, they will make fun of them for taking yet another WR in the first round.

Since there is no possible way for Millen to ever save his reputation in the NFL, he might as well just go for it regardless of the criticism that he will take either way.

His impressive performance guarantees that he will never be a Minnesota Viking (that is until we trade for him 15 years from now).

:D Perhaps you could leak some damaging test results? "An anonymous source..." You know the drill.

Coin Flip May Have Cost Calvin Johnson $7 Million

Posted Feb 25th 2007 10:50AM by David J. Warner

Filed under: Buccaneers, NFC South, NFL Draft, NFL Media Watch, Tampa Bay

How much did Friday's coin toss affect the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? Not much, really. The prevailing wisdom surrounding the NFL Draft is that Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson was always headed to the Bucs in the first round, regardless of whether the Browns picked ahead of them or not.

However, it may have had a major impact on Johnson's finances. This morning on NFL Network, analyst (and renown thorn in Al Davis' side) Adam Schefter suggested that the coin flip may have cost Johnson $7 million on his rookie contract. He even went as far as to call it, "the most expensive coin flip in the history of sports."

Granted, this ignores the coin flip that sent Magic Johnson to the Los Angeles Lakers and David Greenwood to the Chicago Bulls, but that was an entirely different definition of expensive, wasn't it?

Also, let's not underestimate the utter contempt that Matt Millen has for the people of Detroit. Most pundits think he isn't dumb enough to take yet another receiver with the second pick, but given that the Ford family just won't fire him, he may think he's just that bulletproof and take Johnson 2nd. I would suggest to Johnson that he should high-tail it to Canada with Mike McMahon if that happens. The Fords' only definition of winning is whether or not the team makes a profit. Aren't you glad Malcolm Glazer isn't like that?

the sad thing is, the prospect of being made fun of will probably override pure talent determinations in millen's mind.

The way I see it is that if Millen takes CJ with the second pick, then Joe Thomas will have to drop to the Bucs at #4. In all honesty, the Bucs need a left tackle more than a WR.

Why wouldn't the Raiders take Johnson?

Because they have Moss and Porter back in good terms (according to Adam Shefter) and QB and OL are bigger needs right now....BUT if Moss is traded away before the draft for a QB or a draft pick, the Raiders will draft Calvin.
