Duchess Jack
What happened to Delhomme last year? What is going to happen to him this year? I've Cutler, Rivers and Jake in a dynasty league and was wondering what his value (or lack of value) is looking like for the upcoming season
PSULions
I think Jake will bounce back with a good season this year. Several things caused him to be subpar last year. 1) Lack of a running game - Losing T. Wharton at LT in the Falcons game and the injuries suffered by Justin Hartwig took to main cogs of the OL out of the picture and they had to patch up the line several times. This made it difficult to run the ball effectively the way they like to. 2) Dan Henning - terrible play calling. I was at each game and the team was so frickin' predictable it was ridiculous. They never adapted the playbook to play to the strengths of Foster and D. Williams, but instead kept trying to jam it in between the tackles and made for too many 3rd and long conversions, which showed with the stats as the Panthers were like 31 or dead last in 3rd down conversions. 3) Dropped balls - Keyshawn and Steve Smith as well as the backs all had their share of dropped passes last year. Dan Henning is gone and that is the biggest change for me. Jeff Davidson, the new OC, will focus on ways of getting the ball to Steve Smith and hopefully, Keyshawn decides to stay with the new OC. He is looking at the Panthers personnel and I believe we see a more effective running game that will allow Jake to use the play action fake to make a few big plays in the passing game. I think the Panthers learned a lesson from the OL problems of last year and will definitely add with the draft and also getting injured players back so hopefully, the OL will be much improved to protect Jake and allow him to read the D instead of being rushed into risky throws that led to interceptions. Jake will be undervalued based on last year, but he should be a good 10-15 QB for fantasy stats in 2007.

I also heard they took out the slant pass and Smith and Keyshawn want that play to be called.
Bronco Billy
You want to improve the running game dramatically with one easy step? Put Foster on the bench & make sure D Williams gets at least 25 touches a game. Voila. Instant running game.

Bronco Billy
Worked great against the Vikings last season. Then they decided to drop it as a strategy. The Vikings stopped a lot of top RBs cold last year. That Williams managed 74 rushing yds on only 13 carries, and added 24 yds receiving, plus the TD, should have told the Panthers something about what they had. Every game where they got him to double digit carries were great games by him. The guy is the real deal, and he has to share work with a turd like Foster. The Panthers deserved to lose 8 games last year. :shaking head: ***Full disclaimer - I don't own D Williams in any FF league, but I sure wish I did. If CAR decides to take the shackles off of him, he'll be the best RB of last year's draft. Edited February 27, 2007 by Bronco Billy

Williams abilities with Foster injured that game Eagles vs. Panthers 24 touches - 175 yards - 1 TD Next game against the Giants at home Foster is back in the starting lineup and Williams dissappears yet again. Foster - 10 touches - 26 yards - 0 TD Williams - 6 touches - 45 yards - 0 TD Williams was very active in the passing game where he is very good in space, but it was like the coaching was so stubborn to keep Foster as the starter and run him like they did with Stephen Davis. They never really adjusted the playbook to take advantage of the best weapon outside of S. Smith under Henning, which is one of the reasons, Richardson told Fox he needed to make some changes this offseason make the offense more effective. Screens and dump offs to Williams can really change how a D tries to stop the D and give the Panthers a 2nd big play guy on offense. Hopefully, they have evaluated the season and will look to capitalize on Williams being the type of playmaker that Brian Westbrook is for the Eagles. Seahawks21
If Deangelo doesn't have AT LEAST 25% more touches than Foster this year, something is horribly wrong over there. As for Delhomme, I just don't think he plays smart enough to win game-in, game-out. He gets very very hot and the rest of the time he tries way too hard, especially considering the defense he has. If Williams does not get 70% of the carries next year....then I'm most likely going to jail. As for Delhomme, as PSU said, he'll be just fine. Henning system was the problem. It had seen very little change since the SB season.....can't do that in today's NFL. The DT's knew what we were doing for the most part and to some extent what Smith's role on ther play was as well. Davidson is gonna focus on the run, but I still expect about 50-50 run/ pass next season. Edited March 1, 2007 by PantherDave
